Duracoat Camo Job

I was finally able to get my phone dried out and recover photos after the tragic canoe accident at the lake.


This was my first 100% build
.308
80% lower and matching upper from M1 Machining.................there is a reason they are not in business anymore  :bash
Faxon barrel
LaRue RAT stock
TruGlo Nexus scope

This was my first time using an airbrush-----so there was a learning curve
Instructions said surface prep: scotch brite and use their degreaser/cleaner---I had paint lift off the receiver in  several spots when I removed the templates.
Maybe because it was raw aluminum?
Stencils not cut completely---I had to resort to using tweezers on some (Rhodesian pattern)

    Not bad.  I don't know about you but your rifle would blend into the terrain background around here just fine.   :thumbup1   

    I saw a girl coming out of a Starbucks last week - camo BDU's and spiked, hot pink hair.   :scrutiny   Not sure if she just forgot to put a lid on or was trying to send some sort of message.   I'm assuming you aren't running the pink hair thing but if you are the camo paint job might not be enough .  .  .   :cool

    yep..............if the opportunity arises again, definitely more prep work on the raw metal. maybe some sort of etching/acid type deal  :shrug

    I'm worried about whether or not some of the paint will loosen when the parts heat up during use.

    I have never worked with Duracoat.  I have used heat activated Cerakote on several occasions and can say for certain that sandblasting with 80-120 AO is the correct base prep for that product.  Can't use bead or soda.  You need the "tooth" that fresh AO provides to increase the surface area and promote good adhesion.

    Looks really good though, and one of the great things about Camo is a little paint lift is not the end of the world.
