Title: Muzzle thread protector problem
Post by: RetroGrouch on January 08, 2018, 12:23:23 am
I have a threaded barrel on a 1911 that I put the provided muzzle thread protector on while I was using it without a silencer. Now the thread protector will only unscrew about halfway before it stops and won't go any further. I tried using some Kroil and a small pipe wrench, but to no avail.  It is magnetic, so it isn't aluminum.

Any suggestions

Have you ever used this barrel with a can?  Did it screw on/off as advertised?  Did the TP screw on easily in the first place?  How many rounds, and how long ago was it attached?

And did you notice any odd aiming issues while it was on?

I had a can on it initially, it's why there's a threaded barrel on it.  I don't remember any problems getting the can off.  It was as accurate with the can as without, maybe even more, since less recoil to anticipate.

Is it a stainless barrel?  Stainless is famous for galling problems. You might try some lock-ease, graphite lock lube. Kroil is an excellent penetrant, but not much of a lube.

I took it to the gunsmith, he heated it and got it off.  I'm retiring it and getting an aluminum replacement.
