Hello!
It is entirely possible that I will sound like a complete dummy here because I am not really sure how to state this question. Apologies in advance!

I have a Taurus PT1911 that has been a real good gun to me. Zero issues, shoots everything, a real fun gun I got for real cheap!

I ordered a Novak X Model tritium front sight from Brownell's and had a local gunsmith install it. The pistol always shot point of aim with the factory sight. With the new one it consistently shoots 4" low with different kinds of cheapo FMJ and some handloads that made a really nice little group, just 4" low. Between 10 and 20 yards in the pistol bay we were shooting in.

The only option for that tritium sight is .150" tall. I just figured that if that's the only sight available that's made for that specific gun, it must be the right height. I measured the original sight and it's .143", so there's the problem.

I guess my question is: how do I mate this front sight with the (fixed) rear one? Do I need to get a compatible rear sight for that .150 height? In the Brownell's 1911 catalog, some, but not all, of the Novak rear sights list "Use with .175" front sight". The Novak sight doesn't provide any info like that as far as I can tell.

I really like this new front sight; I can pick it up super easy and put 'em pretty close together (just a little lower than I intended).

Sorry for the dummy question but I would appreciate any advice. The only other gunsmithing experience that I've had was with the CZ Custom Shop. Those dudes seemed like they could just read my mind and returned my P-01 as a little complete package of badassery.

Anyway, interested in you guys' learned opinions (and feel free to call me an idiot at any point).

Mac

It was after business hours today, but I have written Novak. I was just interested in the Horde's thoughts!

It sounds like you will need to replace your rear sight with one that is taller than the one that you have.
