Bubba'ing an SKS?

I have been giving serious thought to performing the unspeakable to my Tyoe56 SKS.  I think I am going to install the Tapco Intrafuse stock system.  Before I am bombarded with hate, please here me out.  I enjoy this rifle for its history, sentimental value (given to me by my father), and the fact that it makes hippies cry.  However, I can't enjoy shooting it for these reasons:  The wood stock, even with aftermarket 1" rubber extension, is too short for me(6' tall and lanky).  This is made worse with the Tech-sights I installed because they extend ~1/2" past the rear of the receiver and I habitually scratch the hell out of shooting glasses and rough up my eye socket when I get a normal cheek weld on it.  I do not like the aftermarket Monte Carlo style plastic stock (maybe you guys and gals can change my mind) and the Timbersmith stock, nice as it is, is way too expensive for me.  Is the Tapco stock a serious piece of gear or is it junk?  I had a really hard time at the last Appleseed I went to with this gun in its current configuration, it just felt all wrong.  I have shot rifleman before several times with my 10/22 and wanted to do it with a centerfire.  What say ye?

    Meh... It's an SKS.  You can not Bubba that which is already Bubba'd.  Go for it.

    If you keep the original stock it's hardly buhbaing, You are just making it a more comfortable shooter, and should it hit something craxy like $500+, then just slap it back into the old stock and call it good.

    Ditto, just don't start using hacksaws and files and stuff  :neener

      SKS' are better than alot of people give em credit for, except I do think that the $300-350 price tag is a but much now.

    I gave a Norinco to my dad for xmas a few years back, it's a pretty good rifle. I'm sure the Russians are better, but what European one is? Bulgaria?

    And I concur with the above sentiment. If you're making no permanent changes, it's not a Bubba case. If you are, it may be. Bubba uses hacksaws, pipe wrenches and dremel tools. Just putting on an aftermarket stock is not a case of being a Bubba, any more than attaching Tech Sights is.

    I say change'em all. Especially the Yugo's. Chop the bayonet lugs, throw away the grenade launcher, make sure that grenade sight is removed, and feed that old junky wood stock through a wood chipper.

    Mine is all original with all the naughty bits and your bubba rifle will just make mine that much more valuable. :neener

    I have a circa 1964 Chinese that makes me wonder if all the former users of this rifle had arms like a T-Rex, and hands like an orangutan.  The length of pull is, as a previous poster noted, much too short for me, and the grip makes me feel like I'm grasping the big end of a baseball bat.  It's original configuration looks like this:



    So yeah, I bubba'd it, to make it more fun to shoot. Its use is primarily for plunking steel at longer ranges, and cans and soda bottles in closer.  If there comes a time when I'd sell it, I could easily return it to its original dressing, or sell as is.

    I always figured that by the time you buy an SKS and put a different stock on it you might as well just buy a cheap AK instead and call it good. Unless you're just devoted to the SKS.

    Question:  What  detachable box  magazine allows  the SKS to still use stripper  clips?  THank  you  in  advance.

    The Tapco mags can be modified by trimming the top lips to accommodate the stripper clips.
    The magazine on the top has had its lips cut back, the one on the bottom is the original:

    Thank  you!  You  should  offer your  modified TAPCO magazines SKS  stripper clip variant  as  a  service.  Think  of  it as  expedient field  replacement  for  a  missing  magazine,  Or perhaps  a tutorial here?
