I'd like to see the ad for that:

"Hi! We'd like to give you food poisoning, and see if it can be headed off by you eating a citrus fruit, whole."

"Whole?"

"Yup, peel and all. Munch it down."

"Fluff off."

All my evidence is anecdotal.  The best I can come up with as a mechanism for its effectiveness is the pectin in the fruit pulp and rind binds the offending bacteria and toxins.   The D-limonene kills off the bad bacteria or at least slows it down long enough for the body to mount its own defense.  The lemon juice just helps move everything along.

You have to remember, this was given to me by an ancient old gulf coast fisherman who sometimes worked his boat alone.  This was what he came up with to combat food poisoning after eating something out at sea that should really have been refrigerated but wasn't.   Apparently he stumbled on it by accident after being sick for two days and drifting into a dangerous situation.  I guess it was the only thing he hadn't tried and when it worked he was as surprised as anybody.   :shrug

    Food poisoning.

It IS as bad as it sounds.

You're so sick you're afraid you'll die.   :vomit

And then you wish you would.   :vomit :vomit

And then you're afraid you won't.   :vomit :vomit :vomit :vomit :banghead

How about the misery of digesting a whole citrus fruit, peel and all, masks the symptoms of food portioning?
IIRC I've read that nerve endings can only report one sensation at a time...

Or it simply makes your GI system pass everything faster than normal?

I don't think that would explain the nausea subsiding after a few hours and returning to near normal over the next 24 hours.  Its worked like that for me on a few occasions when others in my party who ate the same food but didn't do the lemon trick were deathly ill for 48 hours or more.  I couldn't say what the whole truth is without some scientific testing - just passing on friendly advice.

Does it give you diarrhea? If it does. Then Lowkey might have a point about it just making the body pass the problem.

I generally don't keep a journal and I particularly don't keep one when I'm feeling poorly but I can't recall that it gave any particular problems along those lines. Certainly nothing like the projectile vomiting and diarrhea commonly encountered with a cracking good case of food poisoning.   :hmm

The one you have to look out for is red velvet cake. People have eaten that stuff, seen red in the toilet bowl, and then gone to the emergency department  :rotfl .

Quite an expense and scare to be told that you have a clean bill of health  :cool .

Would it count if it were coupled with adequate amounts of liquor to make it palatable?

'Cuz Saint Patty's is coming up, and I can do that with a lime & tequila, no problem... it'd take, what? 8 shots?

How's the count go? One tequila, two tequila, three tequila, more! Four tequila, five tequila, six tequila, floor!

3 shots of tequila, I'm handsome.
6 shots of tequila, I'm rich.
9 shots of tequila, I'm invincible.
12 shots of tequila, I'm invisible...... :rotfl

3 shot of anything, and I'm a happy boy.  6 shots and I'm asleep.  Anything more is just diminishing returns. ;)

Technically it's a vacation, but since it's going to last until next week, I say it counts.

Well this hit's below the belt since my vacation is ending this weekend.  Driving back home from SoCal to Utah tomorrow.

I so want to be on vacation right now it is not funny.  I hate break up.  The 3+ feet of snow in my yard is going away, more and more and more projects are emerging from the pretty white cover.  Also 35 degrees and rain is my most favorite weather to be out in and trying to get anything done in.  Also anyone who says you don't have to shovel rain, has never dealt with a normal snow winter breakup. :bash

Well my property and road is rapidly becoming a mudhole. :whistle  We are much too small to ever be noticed by the president.  I do love the pictures showing the desert all green and pretty, but even this time of year it is too hot for my thin Alaskan blood.

Yup.  There's a lot to be said for weather that doesn't require a boat or a shovel.  Still, after the fourth month of hot weather during the summer it starts to get old.  I find myself looking for all those Alaska based reality TV shows on cable.  Remember, the seasons in Phoenix are as follows: Almost Summer, Summer, Still Summer and Christmas.   I think the reason they don't show the wind chill factor on the weather here is because it just pi&&es people off.  "Today's high was 114 degrees but with that wind chill factor it only felt like 104 !"    :facepalm

Key difference: You are not being overrun by dirt worlders.  The people make the s___hole, not the other way around.  Our president knows this, and it is what he meant.  That is why the media hated it so much.

To get us back on track (as it were):

I finished putting the half-bath back together. Mounted the mirror over the vanity, and changed out the electricals to white plates/switches/receptacles instead of black.

Fun part of that was (re)discovering how badly the house is mis-wired.  The ground fault receptacles in the front two bathrooms do not go back to the ground fault circuit - they go to the circuit labelled 'jacuzzi tub' (which is in the master bath).  Had to find that out the fun way - flipped a bunch of jumpers, then (when that didn't prove fruitful), pull out the receptacle while it was live, caaaaarefulllly remove the black wire, and touch it to the ground wire. Small spark, small pop, circuit goes dead.  Swap in the new receptacle, and go find out which circuit jumped.

Fun. Only got buzzed once.  :D

That sucks that you got zapped. You should have used a Russian voltage tester. Here's a glimpse of one. It was filmed in genuine Russian video quality, via a USSR potato.
