Been spending my free time of the past week circulating petitions around my community, to get Republican candidates on the primary ballots.  Looks like tomorrow will be an extension of that...  :doh

    Painting the half-bath.

    Not a euphemism.

The toilet in there has always not... quite... worked right, so we bought a new one, and the previous owners hadn't painted behind the tank. So, disassemble toilet & paint... oh, and put a new lighe fixture in over the vanity.

Need to put a third coat on two walls - while the new paint is "primer included," the sunshine yellow color the previous owners had painted has proven to be the single most difficult color to cover I have ever dealt with in my life.

We also looked at some different tiles to put in there, at a later date (I'm not above buying something now and storing it in the basement until we redo the floors, when we can afford to swap out the vanity itself... though I just had an idea about that).

The real problem with the room is that it's the only place in the house the previous owners put *any* money into - by half-assedly painting the vanity with black krylon (without bothering to remove the door hardware), and putting in a really nice granite top and sink... that's too deep for the sink hardware to work with, and the granite Does Not Match Anything Else in Existence.  >:( >:( :banghead :banghead

Yup, so have I. In the past, the Sherwin-Williams 'primer included' paints have worked really well for me, but not this time. *sigh*

Meh. Another coat, and it'll look great. It's nothing but time.

On Saturday I offered a CFP class for my local neighborhood.  Had about 20+ people show for the class and 16 left with certified applications.

And then we had the annual Pi day party.  I know it is supposed to be on 3.14, but we are out of town then.  The party was help early on 3.2 in honor of the Indiana Pi Bill (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indiana_Pi_Bill).  Good turnout and several pi of pie was consumed.

And I tried to get over jet lag from a trip around the world that ended on Friday night.  Still pretty groggy.

Local chapter of the 501st had its Annual Gathering on Friday. That was a good time: got professional-grade pictures taken for my trading card (yeah, we do that  :cool )

Sunday I finished the first draft of a short story that I'm planning to submit to Baen Books' Fantasy Adventure Award contest.

Took my wife to the Kelly Clarkson concert.   It was a decent show even though I'm not a huge fan.  Usually the only artist I go to see is Weird Al whenever he is in town.     However, I must admit that Kelly does have genuine talent and actually performs her own music instead of auto-tuning everything.   It was a solid performance and well run show, and the opening acts also did a good job.

I was also able to snag good seats with a Groupon deal, so it wasn't too expensive either.  Even without that, her concerts are usually far more affordable than a lot of others.  We saw her up in KC a few years ago too and it was also reasonably priced.

I prepped the attached house greenhouse, as the wife had around 300 tomato plants transplanted and ready to move out there.  Next weekend will be getting the heat prepped in the big greenhouse, as she is hoping to not have to do a second transplant, but go straight into the ground.  It will take 2-3 weeks of heat on out there to get the ground temps up so it will be ready for plants first week of April.  She is hoping to have tomato's ready for sale at our first Farmer's market Memorial day weekend.

I've always had decent results with KILZ.

BTW, I've also discovered Zinsser works better for cabinet doors, and woodwork where you want to still see details.  KILZ works great, but goes on so thick it can obscure seams, etc. (not necessarily a bad thing, if you're looking for that).

Before I renovated my wife's townhouse, we painted all the cabinets in my kitchen in Athens, which was a *loooot* of cabinets.  With the Zinsser, the cabinet door panels and frames still looked crisp, whereas the test piece I did with KILZ looked like it had two or three more coats of paint on it.

Just an FYI, if you ever have to go through that...

Had to drive with the wife down to Wichita.  when we left the house about 10 am it was 55 and mostly sunny.   Got about an hour or so down the road and the temp started dropping.   dropped 15 degrees in less than 20 minutes and the wind picked up from about 15 to about 40 mph.   not as enjoyable a day from there on out.   :coffee

Went to the local gun show on Saturday.   It was kind of a bust.  Only one gun there I was even mildly interested in, an Israeli light barrel FAL built on a Coonan receiver.  Might have made an offer on it I hadn't already ordered one from DSA last month (still waiting on mine to get built).   The shows here just haven't been the same since they moved to a smaller venue.

Got food poisoning (suspect it was the dinner at Red Lobster on Saturday).   Woke up around early in the AM on Sunday morning and threw up everything still in my stomach.  Spent the next several hours occasionally dry heaving.  Then I spent the next 36 hours in bed running a fever.   Finally just drug myself out of bed a few minutes ago.  Feeling a bit better now.   Fever has gone away and I was able to eat some toast.    I guess when some people decided to set their clock forward an hour on Sunday,  I needed to do a day and a half.

:facepalm  Glad you're feeling better.  For future reference try this - when you first begin to feel sick from something like that, eat an entire lemon or lime.  Pulp, juice, membranes, peel, seeds and all.  You may be sick for an hour or two but when the nausea clears up that's usually the end of it.  It was a tip I got from an old fisherman who ran a shrimp trawler down on the gulf coast.  Seems to work for me every time I've tried it.  :shrug

Interesting! I'm not sure I could eat a whole lemon when nauseated though.

My wife  and I went to a Billy Joel concert at Chase field.  A really good concert, even with him being 69. Not a single bad song or one we didn't know all the words to the lyrics. No warm up band, just him and his band playing for 2 and a half hours.  If you haven't seen him in concert or it has been a few years, like me, do it while he is still alive and touring.

I saw him on the River of Dreams tour - while sick with the flu. Awesome show, but the top of my skull felt like it was going to come off during "Goodnight Saigon," when they do the helicopter sounds.

This past weekend, I installed the new toilet, and we spent a few hours browsing tile possibilities for the bathrooms.

Yeah I was too far into it for that to have worked.  When I went to bed, I was feeling a little queasy, but thought that might just have been because I ate way too much at dinner (as you tend to do at Red Lobster).   When it finally got so bad that I woke up in the middle of the night, there was no keeping anything down.  I couldn't even manage sips of water.   I probably would have been better off if I had thrown up sooner.

Spent almost the entire day asleep on Sunday, with just a couple of hours where I was watching tv in a stupor. Did the same thing today.  I'm still pretty tired and don't feel like eating much, but at least the nausea, body aches, and high fever seem to be done.

Yup - the lemon trick works best when you catch it at the "queasy" stage.  Again, glad you're doing better.

I wonder why this works... acidity kills the bacteria, maybe?  Not sure the peel is necessary, but there are plenty of acids in the essential oils, so maybe... huh.  :hmm

Would definitely recommend keeping the menu light for a few days after that, maybe eating yogurt, or something else probiotic to boost the gut biome...

The fiber may also play a part in just securing the bacteria in it long enough for you to pass it. Citrus peel also has antibacterial properties just from the oils.

I have skeptical hippo eyes until a trial is done to see if it is actually working or just good ole placebo.

I'd like to see the ad for that:

"Hi! We'd like to give you food poisoning, and see if it can be headed off by you eating a citrus fruit, whole."

    "Whole?"

"Yup, peel and all. Munch it down."

    "Fluff off."
