The mix I gave is to prevent them from boring into the log rather than exterminate them after the fact (although it may do so as well).
Side benefit of the mix is that it also inhibits mold, fungus, and rot.
Yeah your mix is not terribly lethal as these things go and it does prevent fungal damage so its got that going for it.  Borax and boric acid is pretty toxic to bugs that ingest it but most things just leave it alone when its sprayed on wood.   My favorite dust for applying to the outside of the house is boric acid powder and food grade diatomaceous earth.   Keeps all manner of creepy crawlies at bay without being poisonous to kids and pets.  As for what I did this week-end, well, I got out my old insecticide duster and gave all the exterior cracks the once over with the aforementioned concoction.   :cool

Went to Tullahoma, TN this past weekend, to see Senior Minion #1's theater group put on a stage production of "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe".  For a small town, low budget production, it was really good.  (And I'm not just saying that because my granddaughter was the stage manager.)  Took the tech crew out for dinner afterwords, and we almost bankrupted an all-you-can-eat sushi bar.

    Life is good!

On the subject of scorpions several years ago my father put on a pair of work pants that has been in the laundry room of the basement without shaking them out

There was a pair of scorpions hiding in the crotch area...he crawled up the two flights stairs to the main floor, laid down on the floor for a half hour, then got up and went to work anyway. That's a man of steel right there for ya.

This weekend I went fishing today and tomorrow I'm not doing a damn thing. I've spent most of this week replacing a full undercarriage on a dozer and I'm whupped and very sore. Back to it Monday morning so I'm enjoying taking it easy for now

Went and played in the mud again, this time in Tekamah, Nebraska.

Couple of years ago, I showed the wife of a good friend some pictures from a Warrior Dash I'd run with #2 Stepdaughter and Senior Minion #1, and she allowed as how it looked like lots of fun, but she didn't want to run it by herself, and her husband's idea of vigorous physical exercise was walking across the room to pick up the TV remote.  Like an idiot, I told her "If you want to run one of these, and you can't find anyone else, I'll come up and run it with you."

We had a blast, both on the run, and at the after-run party (although I did get my ass kicked in the pushup contest.)  Next year, we will have 8 people run it with us!  (It's a fund-raiser for St. Jude's Children's Hospitals.)  It's the most fun you can have, and still keep your clothes on!  If you have one in your area, you owe it to yourself to check it out!

Do we forget that cops were primarily still using 6 Shot Revolvers well through the mid 80's? It wasn't until after 1986 that most departments then relented and went to autos.

Removing the old flooring in my bathrooms in preparation for the tile guy to install new tile next week.    For some stupid reason, when they built this house, they put carpet in front of the bathroom sink areas with vinyl over by the toilet and tub.    :banghead   Been wanting to fix that since we moved in.

I'm just about done with the basement one,   carpet came out easy.  Had some trouble with the tack strips that were nailed directly into the concrete.  I'm going to have to go buy a nail puller to get the rest of the nails out.   Vinyl came out fairly easily through a combination of pulling it up in chunks and using a scraper.   Still need to scrape a bit more adhesive off and run over everything with the shop vac again.

Freakin' awesome! Are you a member of the Rebel Legion?

I'm going to be flying out to Boston Comic Con myself two weekends from now. I'll have to post pics when I get back, especially since I'll be cosplaying. Not gonna say who or what I'm going as. Don't want to ruin it for y'all!

I'm signed up to the Rebel Legion forum but my costume still needs some final touches before I submit it for approval. I have shirt, trousers, boots, helmet and vest plus a totally scratchbuilt blaster pistol but I need a new belt and holster. Fortunately another forum member can supply me with these.

Went to Murfreesboro TN this Sunday, to watch the junior production of "Guys and Dolls".  Senior Minion #1 was not only a stage hand, but had a small part, and it was her first time on stage, as a member of the cast.  (She really enjoys doing the set builds and tech stuff, like lights and sound, but she's got a really good singing voice, so they wanted her for that.)  And since she'd really trashed her left ankle (again) she couldn't help with set tear-down, so I sorta got volunteered to help with that.

And she's been asked to do tech (lights) for Alice in Wonderland which they plan on doing in October.  Pretty doggone impressive, for a 16-YO girl, I think.  But I'm her grandpa, what the heck do I know, right?

It is impressive  :thumbup1, but being her grandpa you might be a little biased  ;).

How'd she get her ankle injured (again?) and why are you rough on her?  :neener You only have a few grandkids, you can't just go around breaking them  :P.

We were doing the Savage Race in Georgia last spring, and I'd boosted her up on an 8-foot wall, telling her that I'd come around and catch her, and she said "No, I got this!", and jumped off! She landed in the wet, slick mud on the far side, and twisted her ankle into a shape that G-d never intended for the human ankle.  One the plus side, the EMTs stopped the rescue Gator, and let her gimp across the finish line, so she could at least collect her finisher's medal, which I thought was a nice touch.

But it totally trashed her cross-country season (the doctor said that she would have been better off to break it, the recovery time would have been shorter), and I think her track coach put a contract out on me.  (The coach had been pretty happy about having two of the Top-10 cross country runners in the state.)

This time, she was spending the night at a friend's house, and tripped over the dog while going downstairs, so I had nothing to do with this one.  The other two, yeah, they were kinda my fault.  And you could tell her to quit hanging out with Papa, but you'd have better luck persuading a mule to be baptized. :D

Went to Lincoln NE. , for the wedding of the oldest grandaughter. Lovely,  fun service,  conducted by  the groom's best friend from childhood.  The bride was lovely  (of course ) and the groom did credit to both Airborne and Ranger schools.  (He's a graduate of both ).
Great couple, and I think they've both done well.   Looking forward to getting fitted for my great-grandpa hat.

Unfortunately, we were caring for a sick dog all weekend.  No fun at all for the poor old guy - or us.  More testing scheduled at the vet's office for tomorrow.

Flew up to Boston and went to Boston Comic Con (AKA Fan Expo Boston) with Little Brother and a bunch of his friends. Cosplayed as Indiana Jones on Friday, did a Group Cosplay with the rest of the crew as Penguin's Henchmen (AKA G.O.O.N.s) from the 1960's Batman TV show. The original plan was to get a group picture with Adam West and Burt Ward, but in light of Mr. West's passing, we decided to do it anyway as a tribute to him. And by sheer dumb luck, we ran into someone with an excellent Batman '66 Penguin costume.

The 501st Legion and Rebel Legion had a booth there, so being the huge Star Wars nerd that I am, I hung out there a lot. I really want to join, but I'm not sure which club. On the one hand, an Imperial Crewman/Officer costume is relatively easy and inexpensive to put together. On the other hand, I really want a lightsaber.

Apologies for the crappy quality cell phone pics. I really need to upgrade my phone. For a variety of reasons, but the camera royally sucking is one of them.
