Well, it was worth a try....
« on: November 14, 2008, 02:28:09 pm »
I posted the following ad on craigslist:

Quote
FREE* training in the use of a handgun for self-defense, and assistance with selection of a gun for home defense. I live in Long Beach and am willing to drive a little, but nothing extreme.

Notice the title says "self-defense." I do not claim that a gun is the "right" method for everyone, or in any particular situation. However, it is the most "bang for the buck" (pardon the pun) without spending endless hours training in more traditional martial arts. It is also the best option for those with physical limitations such as slight stature or being confined to a wheelchair.

Some prefer to rely on the police. That's your decision, but when seconds count, the police are just minutes away.

People in groups which have traditionally been subject to physical violence because of things like skin color or sexual orientation are particularly encouraged to contact me, but I will not ask and do not care what your particular reasons are.

The training I offer is strictly defensive. We will not be covering any offensive or even recreational use of a firearm (although methods do overlap). This is not for the macho-man or shrinking violet who simply wants to feel more powerful. If you do not trust yourself with the capability to take a human life, or if you believe yourself incapable of making the right decision as to the use of deadly force, don't waste my time.

*Student pays for range time, gun rental, and any other necessary expenses at the range of their choice.

Within two minutes it had been flagged for removal.

What happens if you keep reposting it?  Do they have a policy against it?

Well, I reposted it in a different category and it's still up five minutes later. We'll see what happens.

I flagged it as Best of Craigslist.  ;D

Why would Craigslist be against self defense training?

They're broadly against anything gun-related. If I was charging anything for the lessons, the ad probably wouldn't fly. I threw in the bit about minorities just to help the ad stay up. As I say in the ad, I don't care why someone wants to learn.

Originally, th title mentioned guns. I figured it was better to just say "self-defense."

I bet if you change the ad to offer to trade training for sex, they will allow it.

Well done, DRZinn. Good for you, and I hope that it will stay up.

Looks like second time was a charm - it's still up a few hours later. I plan to repost this every time it drops off, and I encourage anyone who can to do something similar.
