One of my brothers brother in laws studs out his male Great Dane for super sized great Danes.  Ridiculous how big these dogs are.   Like a full size couch is a bed...

I would LOVE to have one or any number of giant dogs but there is absolutely no way I could afford to feed one unless I somehow manage to quadruple my salary.

While I agree logically, emotionally lots of people fear big mean dogs. Hence why K9s are very effective in police use, our local K9 officers have lots of good stories about backing down angry angry crowds with just a German Shepard and an officer or two.

Someone on another board that I'm a member of theorized that people have an innate fear of animals that are apex predators in their category. Spiders, snakes, big dogs (think of wolves), sharks, and so on. They might invoke a hardwired survival instinct.

Back in '92 I was in a rock and bottle throwing riot with around 50 people and four of us tried to face them off with shotguns and batons in the days before we had adopted "less lethal" munitions. Our commands and presence were not working and our sergeant started a coordinated retreat by the numbers while praying for backup. When the K9 team got there, suddenly everyone found some other place to be. I was so relieved and amazed at the response and the K9 handler said the dog has the effect of 7-10 officers during a riot. Whatever grievance the 'hood rats had was quickly forgotten when the dog arrived.

No slack at all.       No wonder we have so few idiots posting here.       ( I can't WAIT for my next errant post so I can be reminded of this one. ) 

eh I'm a big boy - I can take it.  The irony being there are two wood working tools I am apprehensive about using, routers aren't one of them.   

Jointers and planers.  Your average saw amputation can be reattached, but with a jointer it is just gone in Fargo quality bits.  And a full size planer howls like an air raid siren, even louder than pop music played from a low riding import with a coffee can exhaust. 

I don't think even DDR K-9 units were ready to use jointers and planers.  The DPRK would, but North Korea doesn't have any.  I understand Iran is pursuing wood smoothing technology, and Pakistan already has some for their "domestic furniture" industry.

And now for the nightmare.   .    .     .   I worked plant maintenance in a commercial bakery operation many years ago. ( we produced roughly a half million pounds of baked goods per week )  The commercial bread slicer is a band saw on steroids.  Looped blades, up to 24 of them, with large serrations ( about 3/4 " between points )  running at high speed and periodically honed by an automatic sharpening system built into the machine.  Eventually the blade point would wear down and begin to produce a ragged slice so the production folks would get all whiney and tell us we needed to change blades.   That was before the advent of kevlar gloves so heavy leather and great care was necessary to avoid great bodily injury when doing so.   If you've noticed the difficulty in getting bandsaw blades to track straight and true you can imagine trying to synchronize 24 of them.      Then readjust the honing mechanism, if you dare.   

I never saw people move as fast as I did the day one of the interior blades broke at the welded joint during operation.  This resulted in the loose end getting wound up onto the top roller wheel and taking out about half the other blades.  This resulted in four or five razor sharp ribbons flying out of the front of the slicer and flailing about the workroom floor until their momentum was spent.   The blades were so sharp, nobody would even go over and touch one until they called us out to deal with it.   

That sounds like something out of a low budget horror movie... YIKES!
