Saul Alinsky was NOT a Communist!  He was an important figure in the NON-SOCIALIST left, and publically condemned Communism as one of the great causes of death and suffering in this quote:

Deathrider, you've been listening to so much pundit bullcrap that you don't even know who the people you're using as an insult ARE!  Go read a damned book, and then you can say something without coming off as a complete blithering idiot.
Seriously uncool.  Calm your insults down. Consider this a warning.

Fine, I'll edit it out.  But READ A BOOK so you know what you're talking about!

He was quote the social "irritant" and I think I can find other reasons to dislike him aside from spurious charges of "communism."  :vomit :panic :shocked :shocked :-[

I'm sorry, He wasn't a Stalinist Communist, he was a Gramsci Communist.

Have you actually read his book Rules for Radicals? He may have decried Communism in one breath, but his writings in the next betray him, was 100% a commie through and through.  Though admittedly he would probably have howled at being labeled as one. He was admittedly and openly (p. 10 rules for radicals) a Marxist and Marxists = Communists. I know there are detailed differences but the fact remains Communism is Marxism and Marxism is ultimately Communism, their ends are the same, as are most of their means.

Wojtowicz, I was precise in what I said and meant.
I am quite well read thank you for your concern though.
I am ready to admit fault when I am indeed in the wrong. However I did not miss speak nor is my data in error.

Adding to Khorne's warning... get back on track guys.  This is about Paul Ryan and his impact on the election.  If ya'll want to discuss Alinsky, start a new thread.

I'd certainly have preferred Ryan after another 4 years as the guy having to pick a Veep.  At least he has one set of answers and doesn't waffle like Clinton did.

    Let me see....

    1) Cut out Medicaid and Medicare for a voucher system that eliminates an entire section of bureaucracy in government. Thus saving billions of dollars.

    2) Cut off the trough of pell grants ($170 Billion??? WTH???) and subsidies to Universities Like Harvard who have multi-billion dollar trust and hedge funds. Making students and parents PAY for college expenses. Maybe Junior will have to work AND go to school! Novel idea there!

    3) Cut funding for illegal immigrant schooling, medical assistance, housing and welfare. Well duh!  Makes fricken sense to me!

    4) Give tax cuts to small businesses so they can make profits, grow, expand the buisness, and provide more jobs. I say it's a win win!

So far he's batting a thousand!

    +1.

But where does it start?  And every time the politicians propose a cut am I going to have to listen to their opponents whine about who will be "hurt" by it?

Cut all entitlements, except for Social Security for folks over 55.

Paul Ryan won't do that but he moves us closer than anyone else.

First, let me preface this by saying I'm a libertarian and in theory agree with what you are suggesting. In reality, That would be fluffing insane. Those entitlements directly effect better than 70% of the total population, if you want to see mass rioting in the streets and guarantee a turn towards total socialism ASAP then that is what you would do.

There are assuredly massive cuts to be made in government, and massive entitlement programs, but we have to have the will of the people, the majority of the people, behind the movement before any lasting progress can really be made.

It's a lot like the Second Amendment, you can rail on all day long on the interwebs about all the things being done to take away that right, but if you take one person out and teach them to shoot and enjoy it, you make a tangible difference. Talk to people, convert them to your way of thinking, that is how progress is made. Not by alienating the unfortunate majority.

Yeah, I want to see a lot of that zeroed out, but you cannot do it all at once. Right or wrong, people have organized their lives, and by extension we have organized extensive parts of our economy, around these programs. Cutting them off all at once voluntarily would be almost as destructive as the government collapsing and cutting them off all at once involuntarily. You need to do a gradual reduction to 0 so that people can make arrangements.

Yeah, I don't think PA will Swing Obama either. Granted, we are very much a swing state, and Philadelphia and some other cities might go Obama, but the core of the state is very much conservative, and we voted 100% Republican in the last gubernatorial and congressional elections. So I predict that PA will go Red this time.

If we're screwed either way, shouldn't I just save the gas and trip to the polls?

    no

you should hang your head in shame and go vote for the lesser of the two evils.

When you do you will notice that the ballot doesn't just consist of the presidential election, but House of Representatives elections, Senatorial Elections, various state equivalents, county officials, etc etc.

While I wouldn't recommend it, you could skip the presidental question all together and instead just vote for the best choice in all the other elections going on.

And THEN you should resolve to be more active in the primaries and caucasus, because that's how we end up with a Mittens as opposed to a better candidate.

FURTHER, even if your state leans heavily one way or another, there are always analysis after the fact that looks at the popular vote country wide, so you'll influence that.  Getting people to vote for party X in a state that almost always goes for party Y means that next cycle party Y will need to spend more of their limited finances in a state that they'd otherwise be able to ignore.  For instance, here in Minnesota there is only the slimmest chance the state would ever go for a Republican president.  However, the anti-democrats here simply try and push hard enough to make the state be classified as a 'battleground' to pull resources here which allows for a different 'battleground state' to be more likely to go Republican.
