We Has Paul Ryan
« on: August 11, 2012, 03:11:29 pm »
Well, well.

The pundits largely seem to have got it wrong (at least the few I heard).

Romney has picked Paul Ryan.  You know, I'm starting to think we have have a shot here.

Wife and I have begun pushing "optimism for a change" as an encapsulation of this opportunity.

They've got the skills, they've got the moral foundation, they've got the ethical backbone, and something else the current administration doesn't have:  can you imagine, ever, Obama and Biden sitting down together in prayer?

Romney & Ryan.  Two men of faith, real faith, not that "liberation theology" crap.  I could totally see the two of them sharing a moment of prayer.

How long has it been since we've had something like that in the White House?

Yeah, I have optimism for a change.

I'm starting to get a bit excited about the election now....I think Mitt made a good choice. I'd heartily welcome a Romney/Ryan   administration.

He is a middle of the road Republican. A moderate is usually not a bad thing to have with voters. He's moderate enough that he may be a Libertarian. I'm cool with that. And he's someone who has a solid plan to cut taxes and government spending. Awesome. We have a very good chance now I think.

    And your better choice is?

Really, I'm not asking to be a jerk. I understand that the two-party system sucks. But in November it will be Obama/Biden or Romney/Ryan. One or the other. And yes, the practicality of it is that a vote for a third party is a benefit to Obama (unless you were going to vote for him, then it is a benefit to Romney).

Unfortunately it is just too damn hard to get a good anarchist candidate on the ballot.

I admit to having second thoughts, again, as to voting for yet another candidate that won't change anything, but I think it will be contenting enough just to vote against obama, regardless of anything else.  I had been under the impression that ryan was supposed to be a pretty solid addition.  I don't know much yet about this particular congress-critter, but I'm taking another look.

Decisions are made by those who show up. (When I say "you" in this next paragraph I'm speaking generally, not directly at you FMJ.)

Frankly, I don't give a hoot in hell about someone who refuses to vote and then complains about our government. If you can't find one of the candidates to some degree better, then either your political views are so alien to American political theary that I don't want what you're selling, or you're maturity is so undeveloped that its probably best that they aren't represented.

FMJ, you've spent years complaining without having the accountability or responsibility of voting. It's time to be a man and a citizen. For all its faults, we live in the freest, most prosperous, and most privileged society on earth, perhaps in the history of man. Our system works amazingly well. And anyone who won't make the token effort of voting is either lazy, selfish, stupid, or some combination of them.

Men do their duties, not stand back and watch others do it for them. Be a man.

This election I'm not voting for who can improve the situation.  It's beyond that.

I'm going for the one that can minimize the damage, and reclaim whatever we can from the wreckage WHEN....we crash into the concrete wall we're speeding towards.

    Look at it this way:
2015. world economic collapse.  2015: middle-eastern nuclear war.  2015 (insert whatever)  Romney or Obama?

Oh yeah. Ryan got slammed on 1911forum. I guess we could do a lot better but then we could do a lot worse too. So...myeh.

Thing is, I don't like Romney and I really don't care who runs with him. But I'll still hold my nose and vote for him because he'll stop the Obama administration's prison rape of America. We might not be out of this metaphorical prison then, but at least we won't be getting cornholed.

I'm going to be THAT guy for FMJ, vote for a third party. We already know that unless LA and San Francisco fall into the ocean before election day that the state is going to Obama, same with Washington. Why waste my vote on the Lesser of two evils? If a third party gets 5% of the popular vote that third party is eligible for federal matching campaign funds. Making future races much, much more interesting and maybe, just maybe, give Americans enough notice to break this false R vs D thing we are going with right now.

I remember a statement that said that 75% of Americans are closeted libertarians, they just dont know it yet.

That said I'm voting for Gary Johnson.

I will be taking a good hard look at third party candadidts. I suspect I will vote for who ever the constition party is running. Failing that I hear Micky Mouse is looking pretty good this year.

If we're screwed either way, shouldn't I just save the gas and trip to the polls?

I would say you should still go. There are more people to vote for than just the president. Hopefully there is at least some one worth voting for locally. You can vote third party or if you have some one in mind write in some one.

If you don't like Romney, that's ok, but you can vote for the most conservative reps and senators you can, along with good quality state reps, county and state judges, sheriffs, etc.

If you don't vote you have no right to complain, no matter what the outcome.

Ok, I'm not going to point fingers. But to everyone who says why should I bother, I say sit down and STFup. If you can't take the time to cast that vote, the one so many have given so much for you to be able to have, than you got no business saying anything about what happens when the guy in the "office" takes that vote, or anything else, away from you.
You wanna rave at me? Have at it.
I spent 19 months and 24 days in a place I really didn't want to be so that I can cast that vote. If you can't be bothered, then don't. But then you don't have any right to complain.
Ryan may not be the best choice, hell, he may not even be a good choice, but it's been made.
