The Debate
« on: October 15, 2008, 11:25:16 pm »
I tortured myself by watching the debate on Fox.

I think McCain did better then usual but didn't explain his position clear enough...unless you are a plummer.

I'm pretty sure he will have the Plummers/Pipe Fitters endorsement within the next couple days.

I liked the fact that he nailed Barry on Bidens weakness on his foriegn policy decisions.  Biden has been on the wrong side of every foriegn policy decision he's ever made.  Not even Barry could defend that.  That was his strongest point all night if you don't include the "spread the wealth" plummer dig, which could have been delivered with more force.

I think McCain's points were right if not delivered effectively but Barry won on style.  There were a lot of openings that McCain took advantage of but he didn't seal the deal.

I think Barry made a tactical error when all he talked about was spending money.  McCain finally said the golden phrase "Spending Freeze".  He used the wrong words.  He should have said "BUDGET FREEZE" which would have been more effective.

Personally I think that the above spending issue in this economic climate should be enough to sink Barry provided the masses watching the debate were listening to their wallets.

Hopefully it will be enough to drag McCain accross the White House rotunda in November, but that remains to be seen.

Of course if we get a veto proof majority in Congress, everything could be moot no matter who is President.

Personally, I have a feeling that the DFL will lose seats because of their abismal approval rating of 17%.  Just a gut feeling and MHO.

Oh well.  All I can do now is go to the polls on the first Tuesday in November and vote for Palin.

You go girl...

McCain started out shaky.  Americans are Hurting and they are Angry... he said that like 3 times in a row right off the bat.  I got worried.  But he took an attack position and put Obama up against the ropes and he kept him there.  A real attack dog, and I liked that.
Obama spouted a couple lies, dodged questions and tried to talk about issues - for me - Obama's background is an issue.
The Joe the Plumber dialogs were actually interesting, if you realized they were talking about all of us.
Obama still wants to tax corporations, which never happens... just say Tax Everyone and you see what Obama is doing.

I'm tired of the Democrat arguement about Bush coming into office with a budget surplus and now we have a defict.  Um... We've had a slight case of War going on, and compound that with a dose of Katrina.   Anyone would have used up the surplus.  But McCain shut Obama down on that one... "you should have run 4 years ago".  Someone in the audience actually applauded at that one.
It was a more interesting debate.
Obama still didn't answer questions about the Terrorist Associate.  Ayers is a major issue, and he didn't deny it... just tried to minimize it and change the subject.  Obama should have had a better answer ready.

Agreed.  Barry was on defense all night, but that's all he wanted to do.

I like that McCain was on offense, but it would have been more effective had he taken that position in the first two debates.  Showing up late to the game makes you look desperate, even if you are right.

It makes it look like you're caving in to the media and poll pressure.

The Bush dig was good.  And so was the Voucher dig at the end.  The media will dispense with it because McCain said it.  If those were Barry's digs, they would have been considered knock outs.

Yes the Joe Plummer shots were a shout out to us and, as you said, was interesting.  I don't want interesting.  I want effective.

It would have been more effective when he was looking into the camera and said:

"I want to address Joe the Plummer, and Joe the Mason, Joe Printer, and even Larry the Cable Guy that I want you to keep your money so you can re-invest that capital back into your business and spread the wealth the way you want to by hiring Joe Sixpack down the street and Jane the Secretary, creating new jobs, which generates more tax reciepts, which pays down our debt and rapidly grows our economic infrastructure.

I don't want the Jobamas and Joe Bidens raising your taxes so that you have to lay off workers in order to keep what you worked for, which in turn causes unimployment, which inturn drains unemployment benefits and encourages welfare growth which would devistate our already hurting economy.  When Jobama and Joe Biden raises Joe Employers taxes, Joe Employee finds himself in the soup line looking for work.  That's not an economic plan, that's an economic desaster."

See the difference?  How do you defend that?  You can't.

You should have heard me yelling at the tv on the partial birth abortion issue.  While McCain did a yomans job, I would have owned Barry on that one hands down.

    Just sayin...

This was no knockout punch against Obama and that was what McCain needed.  All the polls have Obama significantly ahead and something drastic needed to happen.  McCain still has some time but unless he pulls out a trump card or an act of nature intervenes then we'll see Obama in the White House.  Get your guns whilst you may.

Not necessarily.  The Demoncrat led Congress has a 17% disapproval rating, and Obama's coat-tails are NOT working for folks like Pelosi and her incompetent ilk.

They try anything approaching the AWB of '94, that 17% approval's going to turn to Napalm and incinerate every last one of the idiots.

Polls, Schmolls. The media keeps plugging Obama in an indirect way by reminding everyone that he is ahead in the polls like its a won election still three weeks away. Where are they conducting these polls? New York? San Fran? West Hollywood, Detroit, Atlanta, Chicago? Polls are F.O.S. Pure and simple, the only poll that ever counts is the first Tuesday in November.

I still think that the silent majority (mostly us in "Fly Over Country") will vote against Obama. I remind myself that Klinton was elected twice which undermined my confidence in the American people but with so much more at stake this time, I think the American people will rise to the occasion. Call me a Pollyanna Optimist if you will. If I am wrong then then BHMO's supporters deserve the cornholin' they're gonna get. As for me and mine, I think we are set to ride the storm out. It won't be fun but it'll be a good lesson for the kiddos and a costly "Told ya so!" for the rest.

We were at our local Fall Festival parade and the kids were catching candy left and right. An Obama campaign float came by and my brother-in-law yelled, "Look out kids! They're gonna take your candy and give to someone else!" What cold, silent stares he got from the Obamites...and of course the cheap bastages didn't throw candy, the only ones besides the dentists and diabetes clinic who didn't. The Obamarxist Brown Shirts probably already have my bro-in-law numbered for his berth in the "re-education" center...

I live in Liberal Land Minnesota.

In the last election downtown St. Paul yards and every bumber sticker was Kerry/Edwards.  A literal sea of them.

I'm not seeing that in this election.  Now I'm seeing ... nothing.

Don't count out McCain just yet.

    And Doug, that's a 83% disaproval rating.  ;)

We are nothing if not clear...

Quick update, I took the scenic drive through South St. Paul by the river where it is infested with Dems.

Normally there would be too many signs to count.  Today the number of Obama signs I counted were 12.  There were even three yards with McCain...unheard of...naturally they were all tagged with black spray paint.

The most popular sign?  Franken.  Lots of Franken without Obama signs.

Those are Dems voting for McCain and are pissed at Coleman for voting for HR1424 bailout bill.  Coleman is loved by the Dems here.  He use to be the Mayor of St. Paul.  While Coleman may be a lib republican, he did single handedly bring down Kofi Anon and the UN in the oil for food scandal.

By voting yay on the bailout, he may have cut his own nuts off.  This is a bad omen for Norm.

I think MN will be a redstate this election.  Knock me over with a feather...

First of all, another THR member here. ;)

I watched the debate last night as I was part of a CNN poll, why they polled a conservative I don't know. When McCain called obama Senator Government I laughed my butt off, it was truly classic. I was glad to see that McCain finally decided to enter the Presidential Campaign. Another Moment that I thought was classic was when McCain said if you wanted to run against Bush you should have run four years ago. I think McCain missed some opportunities to deliver the KO, but was generally pleased with his performance.
The Ayers connection is of great concern to me as is obamas association with Raila Odinga, the Rev. Wright, George Soros, who has pumped millions of dollars into obamas campaign and on his own web site states that he wants to rid the world of Christians and  obamas associations with Farrakahn? I have read several excerpts from obamas book in which he states that he is ashamed of his mothers race (white) and that he wants to punish the white race.
When the question of the VP came up I about blew a hole through the T.V. Bob Schieffers snide comments and looks as he asked McCain if Palin was qualified to be President really set me off.

While I don't put alot of stock in "polls", I know that all you read and hear is how far ahead Obama is right now, However, I was on A.O.L. last night after the debate and their welcome screen had a link to a poll that consisted of A.O.L. readers, You were asked for your S/N and P/W also the state in which you lived to be able to vote, In that poll, McCain had 300+ electoral votes to Obama's 157.

Something about that made me smile, but like I said, I don't put much stock in polls.

claymore1500 - Your avatar is just flat out creepy.

Back to the thread, Polls have never ment much when it comes to General Elections.  They always favor Dems, yet Republicans win quite a bit.  This time around, its anyone's game.

What we need to do about it is simple - We gotta get our co-workers out to vote.  Take a break from work, or organize a Late Launch day so everyone at your job can vote before coming to work.  Make sure all your buds have an "I Voted" sticker.
