Our scouts were out at Spanish Peaks this week. (near Walsenburg, Colorado)
Yesterday afternoon, wild fire started and swept through the camp.
All the boys and leaders made it out ok. Kudo's to the camp leadership, followed procedures, made sure all the people were accounted for. Emergency management and Red Cross had emergency shelters set up for them to go to. They made it out on foot, with nothing but what they had on or could grab. Less then 7 minutes total from the time "hey, I smell smoke" until they are all walking out.
Going to be a lot of replacing needed, one leader lost a cargo trailer, several propane bottles (no camp fires were allowed period) tents, personal gear, uniforms, camping gear, even the troop flag with 30 years worth of streamers and camp ribbons. But, everyone got out ok.
