Best comment so far:  at least it's only Massachusetts (water supply at risk).
Yeah yeah, I know, if there's the threat of terror attack then the .gov might use that as an excuse to go all police state and start using the IRS to go after it's political opponents, lock people up in Gitmo, etc.  Oh wait... so remind me again of the downside of something bad happening to a blue-state reservoir?   :hmm

Quote
BELCHERTOWN (CBS) – Shortly after midnight Tuesday, seven people were caught trespassing at the Quabbin Reservoir.

State Police say the five men and two women are from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Singapore, and “cited their education and career interests” for being in the area. The men told police they were chemical engineers and recent college graduates.

The Quabbin, in Belchertown, is one of the country’s largest man-made public water supplies. Boston’s drinking water comes from the Quabbin and the Wachusett Reservoirs

I can't think of one offhand...  Other than the Patriots, Massachusetts does not have anything of value to offer the country, that we couldn't find or do better elsewhere.

Alternate appropriate reaction: Nothing to see here, move along.  Saudis and Pakistanis are well-known skinny-dippers and were having a harmless-fun keg party in the drinking water supply for zillions of people.  This would only be of concern if the trespassers were Tea Party people or other people with a proven track record of doing bad things to people.  Islam is a religion of peace and I'm sure a bunch of Saudi/Pakistani chemical engineers hanging around the public water supply is all part of a misunderstood fraternity prank.  Don't let precious police resources be wasted on "distractions" (isn't that what Ogabe said recently) when there are conservative groups who need investigating and guns to be run to criminals to support gun control.

That said, on the totally wild and unlikely chance that the "bad thing" that hypothetically would have happened to the Boston water supply was worse than some Muslims tinkling in it, it is pretty just on a cosmic scale that the effects would fall on people who consistently vote for the likes of Obama and Ted Kennedy.

Ok, so maybe I wasn't clear, the first time.

You are talking about a potential terrorist attack, against Americans, on American SOIL.  It ain't funny.  Or does 9/11 NOT ring any bells

You were clear the first time.  I heard you the first time.  In case you didn't realize, SeanP is a Canadian, and so he probably doesn't hold the idea of 'American Citizen' in as high a regard as you - not to say that he doesn't at all...

That said, while I would never welcome a terrorist attack on any part of US soil...  I wouldn't shed too many tears, if they were to take out a large chunk of the liberal population in any state.

That's me.  I didn't say it should be you.

So wait.  What your saying is:  That you are OK with the deaths of MILLIONS of innocent men, women, and children, because they don't happen to have your particular political slant on things?

     :facepalm  Where's your head at?

As for SeanP being Canadian: I don't care if they're Canadian, American, or Afgani.  An attack on a native people on the land of their birth, by a TERRORIST, isn't fluffing funny.

Kaso, I can't tell you how unfortunate that is.  As died in the wool right wing conservative as I am (although I'm trending more and more towards libertarian in principal) I absolutely would shed tears for innocent people killed in a terrorist attack.  Regardless of political ideology, whether I agree with them or not, I do not want to see innocent people hurt or killed by some terrorist attack.

I suspect and hope that your comments were no more than bad humor (though potentially inappropriate), with your last comment simply being made in a rash moment when confronted.  I find it  hard to believe that any of  our regulars on these forums would honestly not mourn any loss of innocent life regardless of political  bent.

I hope you would reconsider your last statement.

Yeah, perhaps it was bad humor... but it's a little closer to my point of view, than maybe it should be.  Six months ago, yeah, I would have been upset.  Lately, though, I have far less 'give a damn' for anyone not friends and family.

But, in the interest of maintaining the civil nature of WTA:  Yes, any attack on any of our people is an outrage that demands justice (vengance) be served upon those responsible.

Also, I'd like to clarify that my mentioning of SeanP was in no way suggesting that he shares any or all of my positions.  He was the only poster between Freeman's two posts, is all.

Prefacing this to say that I'm not picking on you here Kaso, this exchange just made me think -

Kaso's response above is characteristic of the risk of the extremely divided political climate we are in, and one which we must guard against.  The risk is that in the course of a protacted bitter political fight with our political opponents, we begin to see those opponents not as just our ideological enemies, but our actual enemies.

Folks, we've got to keep our humanity in this fight.  We can't allow ourselves to become the heartless, uncaring, bastards that we're painted to be.  Yes, I want to prevail over the other side.  Yes, I want them to catastrophically fail at reaching their objectives.  Yes, I would encourage a humiliating defeat for our political opponents.  But, this is all politics - they are still people (ill-informed, uneducated, misguided, maybe even just plain stupid), and Americans.  Look to how Reagan would fight it out all day long with Tip O'Neill back in the day, but once the day was through, they would sit down to a friendly dinner and laugh like the best of friends.

Al Qaeda, Taliban, other terrorist scum that actually wish us physical harm and wish for the physical desctruction of our way of life, yes I want them to suffer indescribably and die horribly painful, long, and cruel deaths to find out there aren't dozens of virgins waiting for them as they fry in hell.  Those are our enemies.  Democrats, Liberals, Socialists, hell even Marxists - they are our opponents, and I hope that they are defeated soundly, but they are not enemies upon whom I wish physical harm.

Like I said, I'm not meaning to pick on Kaso, I just want to emphasize that as dirty as this political thing gets, don't lose sight of what's important, and don't give up our humanity and our souls to win this fight - because then we lose.

I think your points are well taken but we are far removed from the world of "Tip" O'Neil and "Dutch" Reagan.  If you have any doubt of that I would refer you to the news coverage of the last thirty days.   If your political enemies consider themselves to be your enemies in every other sense you would do well to acknowledge that.   I'd like to think that we haven't gone over that cliff just yet but I will not ignore evidence of it just because I wish it weren't so.

I come here every day because of the kind of people I have found here and the fact that we can cover ground that is simply unthinkable on other forums.  It is an increasingly rare and precious thing these days.    Carry on, gentlemen.

I'm sorry for 'losing it.'  But here's the thing, we do have enemies.  In the truest sense of the word, and this is the kind of thing that they want.  Because it's the only way they will succeed, by turning us into what they are telling the general public that we are:  Radicals, domestic terrorists, nuts with guns.

The Rhetoric of this thread was going in that direction, and I don't like that.  Someone reading that, without the understanding that it was meant in jest, would fall right in with the MSM, and our true enemies:  The ones that want to see the America that we believe so strongly in, fall into ruin.

I am proudly, unreservedly, and unapologetically an AMERICAN, by it's truest sense.  And I hate to see that ideal sullied, I hate what 'they' are doing to my country, and I hate the fact that they've made some of us stoop to their level.  So I got angry.

Not at anyone on the forum, but at the idea that anyone here could feel that way about their fellow Americans.  We must not fall into their trap.  We must be beyond reproach.

So I'll say it again:  They are Americans, 'NUFF SAID.

Being a citizen of the US of A is more than being American.
It's understanding the founding principals were based on Biblical teachings that no one can refute.
    -Truth.
    -Justice.
    -Liberty.
-The Golden rule of do unto others as you would have done unto you.
-Voluntary sacrifice from one's own fruit of labor to ease the burden of someone falling onto hard times.
-Keeping our moral and ethical compass when there are those who take charge of the helm that would do better being tossed into the brig.
-Using truth and facts to fight our battles for us.
-Being examples so others may see the light of true freedom and responsibility.

    But it also means...

-Turning the other cheek, but never giving someone a second chance to sucker punch us again...ever.
-And when it's time to take out the 'trash', we do the job right! We take out the trash and burn it so that we never have to deal with it again. And see to it that we are trusted, absolute, and merciless in doing that as many times and with everything we got and then some. To the ends of the Earth so that no enemy or people will believe that our resolve is weak and desolate.
-For we will pick up ourselves from the dirt and ashes and deliver to them who want us destroyed a hay maker they won't survive.
-Freedom isn't free. And Liberty calls upon the blood of our Patriots and their Tyrants. And we are Patriots.
-We want Peace, but prepare for war.
-We want Freedom, and exercise it without reserve.
-And we are the most compassionate and giving people on Earth today.

So yes, it is more than just being a citizen of the US of A or any free country.

    It's being American.
Whether you live here or not.

Really?  People still care about the Pats?

On the other hand, aren't Saudi Arabia and Pakistan our friends? (note venom and sarcasm dripping off that last sentence.  I vote glaze those nations with nuclear fire.)
