Wes, I want you to know you were very nearly responsible for my choking to death. Fortunately, I swallowed just in time.

Yes, I thought it was very funny.

A couple of years back I passed a Pamela Anderson PETA billboard every AM on my way to work. It was an anti-KFC billboard and always made me crave KFC. Unfortunately, by lunchtime, I never could remember that I needed to go to KFC. I should've gone there every single day.

There is really nothing good to say about PETA, these are people who compare the Holocaust to modern chicken production.

Gunsmom, that's precisely what I had in mind with my Pam/Ted/Eliza parody. We have a similar billboard here in Kansas City (I-435 and Truman Road) which I drive past about once a week.

It's also why, on the rare occasions I eat at KFC, that I request "extra cruelty" with my order of chicken. Cracks them up at the drive-thru...  ;D

Where am I to go now that I've gone too far?

    That was funny!

And if anyone missed it here is the 'offending' segment:

    Wes,
    That was great!

I'm glad that Dushku gave archery and hunting a try.  I hope she keeps at it and becomes an outspoken proponent of hunting and archery.

In regards to PETA, has anyone thought to order their vegan startup kit so that PETA incurs the cost of sending out the kit?  If you get enough people ordering their kit say 1,000 people and the kit costs $5 to send out, then it will be $5k that PETA won't be able to spend on spreading their misinformation.

Do these vegan kits include propaganda posters big enough to use as targets?  If they do, I guess all you'd have to do is put some shoot-n-c stickers anywhere on the poster.  Voila, free targets.

I actually just looked up the vegetarian starter kit, and it doesn't appear to have posters. Its got sob stories about how every different kind of animal dies before we eat them. I still think that humans killing animals is easier on the food than being killed by other animals. We're doing them the favors that nature doesn't.

    Dang!  No targets!

On a more serious matter, I have seen Al Sharpton endorse PETA, so that is FAIL by default.

Funny, I once almost turned vegetarian because of some BS from my health class teacher in middle school back in the day, she was a member (was scammed) by PETA.  Now excuse me while I got and eat some animal products.

The reason I almost stopped eating meat, was because during the health course we we had gone over food and drug safety, etc. and the way the teacher talked about the meat industry was comparable to that of Upton Sinclair's The Jungle(1906).

This is where I really grasped the meaning on the concept of BS for the first time in my life.  Now I wish I would had called out the teacher on it.  She did say that she got her facts straight from PETA's website.

I don't have a problem with a person choosing to be a vegetarian, vegan or omnivore.  The problem that I have with PETA and most of these animal groups is how they use misinformation to convince people to follow their opinions.  Also, I want to make the choice for myself whether or not to use animal products.  I don't want someone else to make that decision for me.

When I was a teenager I looked at PETA and thought that they were an animal group that I could support because they were for the ethical treatment of animals.  Come to find out that the ethics that they follow are suspect and often absent from their programs.

I certainly don't want to see animals suffer intentionally for extended periods of time.  I believe that it is ethically better for an animal to be quickly put down, hunted or processed at a meat processing plant, than to let the animal remain in the wild to slowly starve to death or die of disease due to overpopulation.  Also, I'd like to see as much of the animal used as possible.  The meat has a use, bones can be used for a variety of products, hide for leather, etc.

Back to Eliza Dushku, all the power to you!  Enjoy your bow and enjoy hunting!  They are great sports that get you outdoors.

Well, the teacher was actually a nice lady.  I believe she meant well in that she wanted to stop cruelty to animals even though she probably got the whole animal cruelty concept from watching PETA films.  Their arguments are most likely based on ethos, or emotion.  Most of their videos show you animals being slaughtered, and it is quite violent, but that way they try to get to your emotions.

I know where my meat comes from, it came from a living thing and the way I see it is "one life taken to sustain another."  I believe that I need to try hunting one day, so that I can really understand this concept of one life taken to sustain another.  I feel it would be an important experience.
