Page cannot be displayed virus?
« on: June 06, 2013, 06:12:54 pm »
Is there any type of virus that is like a "Internet explorer cannot display page" or anything?

The last few days I have had a quite a few webpages do that, Wethearmed won't keep me logged in,etc.etc.

Anti-virus has been updated (ad-aware) and ain't found nothing.  I was/am sortof assuming it was our internet since we are being "upgraded" right now with new lines and crap being put in, but it's being weird enough I thought I'd ask here.

ah, haha ;) I like IE ironically enough. Tried the otehrs and didn't care for em.

I was worrying a little too much. BAM 5 o clock on the dot everything started working again.   I get on at odd hours sometimes, probably when they dialdown/back the internet.

Internet Exploder is so full of security holes it isn't funny. That last to do about IE was everyone had to upgrade to IE 10 because of hacked code Microsoft found in some viruses. Get away from IE NOW!

I even block it on my firewall, Firefox for most browsing, Chrome for my work.

AdAware is not really an antivirus, and won't block everything.  I'm not experienced with too many of the antivirus programs out there, so others can chime in.  AVG has a free version you can use that's way better than nothing.

For what it is worth I have had good luck with the free version of AVG. As well I have used Avast. It worked pretty good, I just liked AVG better. I also have use something called spybot search and destroy. I used to think it was pretty good but it hasn't caugh much over the last couple of years. So I don't know if that is a sign that AVG is catching stuff first or I am getting less crap. Perhaps it is the program isn't as good as it once was. I suspect it is a combanation of all three. I also run another program that I find real useful CCleaner. That is a handy little tool for cleaning up stuff, I highly recomend it. I suspect it is a lot of the reason I don't have as many troubles as I used to have. I also used to run housecall as well. I haven't used that in ages though.

Oddly enough Microsoft Security Essentials doesn't completely suck, On Par with AVG but less Bloat (The last 2 or 3 versions have gotten BAD) I use nod32, but somehow my 30 day trial never ends... :whistle
I have to use all 3 at work, and if my users upgrade past IE8 and Java 6... boom all their programs stop working. It is crazy town. If it weren't for the security issues I would probably use IE as well. For some reason the Netscape zombie has never appealed to me, and while I liked Chrome... they see everything, and the .gov has their own access into that data. Just scary.Sure they have access to MS as well, but they just aren't as good at aggregating and compiling the data.

    Sorry to get off topic.
TL;DR AVG, MS Security Essentials - Good. Macaffee - Bad. Norton - Kill it with fire.

No... not better. In this case the dumber of two evils?  :shrug I don't Mind IE, it isn't nearly as bad as it was, and isn't truly deserving of all the guff it gets. Except on security stuff... like setting out to sea in a sieve.
