Depends on where you live & work.  There is a very nice (cost enough coin) light rail system, albeit limited in its coverage.  T, Coyotes & I live outside its pathway, but there are thousands who do use it.  Also s fairly decent bus system. 

I'll say this per your question on finances, 8 years ago, during the first swoop of the housing market I moved to phoenix for a job that paid $28k a year - with a family.  A single guy making 30k as long as your smart with living arrangements you'll be OK. 

I believe I'll be working down town (that's just a guess though.)  I found an apartment that's only a 30 min train ride away.  If I sell my car and just fly out, I think I could swing it financially.  Otherwise, I'd have to go with my parents.  I'm ready to strike out on my own though.  Then again, I will miss being around family.

"Downtown" can mean a lot of different things in Phoenix.

Well Armed Security in Phoenix can mean a lot of things.  It can mean just what it says, City of Phoenix, or it can mean the greater Phoenix Metro area - Glendale, Avondale, Goodyear, Buckeye  , Litchfield, Peoria, Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Apache Junction, Gold Canyon, Laveen, even Casa Grande.

Yeah, I know.  I left a message with the recruiter over there.  I just figured in order for the client to be willing to shell out the dough for an armed officer it would probably be somewhere high profile.

My parents are saying it's a bad idea to fly to the other side of the county on my own dime to interview when there isn't any guarantee of my getting the position.  I called the HR lady there and she asked when I was going to be in Phoenix.  And I was like, when you call me and offer me an interview.  So I don't think Phoenix is an option right now.  She said that Pensacola still had my application locked (I put in for that job back in September  ) and she couldn't look at it until I called them and got the to unlock it.  So IDK, I might still be getting the Pensacola job.  I accidentally missed the deadline for my range recert, though, so I'm not sure if there is a grace period or I'll have to go back through the entire training and start from square one.

Phoenix, most certainly! Then Ft. Laudnum.  Anchorage, too cold.......Charlotte= humid,traffic gridlock hell and unbelievable property prices and rent rates ( I know, I have to go there all the time and spend a lot of time w/ team members from the metroplex)
Houston??? the last place on your list I'd go and only if you had a gun to my head.......HOT & HUMID like the inside of a pissbum's mouth and the quality of locals is like New Orleans w/o the panache. Houston is the Oakland of Texas.

I'll take you to an absolutely kick ass range (PSC in Friendswood), make sure you eat great for breakfast, lunch, and dinner in some killer restaurants and probably be able to see amazing live music every night of the week.

I used to live in Anniston before I moved to Phoenix, but spent a little time in both Huntsville and Birmingham.  Both are decent places but as towns go, smaller is better for me so Huntsville would get the nod.  One thing I noticed though, Alabama seems to have the highest percentage of drop dead gorgeous women of anyplace I've ever seen.   

How hard is it to get a carry permit in Birmingham?  Each sheriff decides how to issue them like in cali right?

I called the office in Birmingham and the lady had me send her my resume, then said to call her back on Monday and "see what we could work out"    I found out the job is actually in Gadsden though.

Birmingham, Charlotte, Phoenix, and Houston have all fallen through.  Which leaves...Miami.  I know, I know, but I don't see another option.  I just sent in my application.  Does anyone know anything about the area?

Apperantly Jai Alai is popular, and so are mojitos, smuggled Cuban cigars, and cocaine.  The dress uniform seems to be a colorfully printed guyabera and white trousers.  Owning a sports car and a boat are social requirements.
