"Destroy my property, eh?"

Slash tires of truck with something.  A knife between the treads, then press broken glass into the tires.  Do not allow him to phone for AAA.  Refuse to allow the tow truck on your premesis - the driver will not want a tresspassing lawsuit since he's not some prick with idiot children and no regard for private property.

fluffer and his rotten sack seed have to walk home, or ATV home.

Immediately file lawsuit in small claims court for damages, punitive damages, and noise pollution.

If they are cutting fences or cutting locks, imho thats breaking and entering.
I know in hunting law if you post signs and appropriate paint you can get folks hammered pretty good for being on your property, even if they aren't caught while actually on your property. I don't think, as cathartic as it would be to put some rounds into an ATV or 4x4 that was tearing up your property, that it would be a good idea to engage with firearms for simple trespassing. That said, its your property, no reason you can't go investigate WTF is going on with you AK, and a pistol strapped on, just your presence might get them to eff off.  "Thought it mightabeen rustlers after the herds of feral cats I heard on my property"

As far as folks coming over in bad times, my friends aren't as prep minded as some but I have taught them all (or almost all) to shoot. So I have extended an open invitation to them to bring all the food, medical supplies, ammo and gas and come on over should it drop in the pot. I would otherwise be alone and I figure even stretching my meager preps for the other folks gives me better odds in any situation than going at it alone would.

Now, I wonder what kind of reaction writing down their license plate #(s) taking their pictures, and informing them that you're calling the cops would provoke?

Find you some old drag behind spike harrows. Turn upside down in some key places on the property. No more 4 wheelers tearing up the property after they hit one.

My father caught a nice 4 inch lifted 2001 4x4 Ford this way on our property. We told the kid a few times, and he kept cutting locks and fences to get into 4 wheel about and leave ruts everywhere. The front tires hit the harrow tossed it beneath his rig, and it proceeded to take out his tranny and some nice looking exhaust pieces. Kid called the law and they proceeded to fine and made him pay for destroying our farm equipment. We have no more 4 wheeling issues now.

I was gonna suggest spiked boards and "randomly" scattered barbed wire fence lines. But this sounds good.   :coffee

A friend of mine used to have a giant 4x8' plywood sign on the nearest road access to his property that read:

"Trespassers will be violated, survivors will be shot."

He didn't seem to have any problems with trespassers that I knew of.

I believe that in Georgia, if you have your land fenced off and gates closed, whether they are locked or not with "No Trespassing Signs" and people are on your land, then they are trespassing and can be charged with breaking and entering if any fence or gate lock was cut or broken. If they have a firearm on your land without your permission, they can also be held by the game warden for poaching. At least thats what some local LEOs have told us.

Re: trespassers with ATV's, It would be expensive, but I think it would work.

You will need to buy a few things, first, about 25 feet of 5/8 in tow chain, then the biggest pad lock you could find, and a very large tractor.  Wait for them to ride off, then pull the tractor up to the truck and chain the tractor to it, they might leave, but they will not be going by truck, when they bring the law back to claim their truck you will be able to explain the whole story to the LEO.

Then just sit back and watch them try to get out of the trespassing charge.

Oh, and by the way, I believe that "booby traps" are illegal in most states.

Yeah, remember that series of severe thunderstorms we were supposed to get? Try one lousy "storm" that was mostly rumbles and only one or two decent thunder-boomers, with another storm that's (supposedly) going to hit Wednesday afternoon.  :facepalm Freakin' weatherpeople around here. "OMG THUNDERSTORMZ R COMING! POWERS GONNA GO OUT FOR A WEEK AN' ALL TEH OLD FOLKS R GONNA GET HEATSTROKE AND DIE!!!!!!!eleventy!!"

So looks like needing a generator and worrying about parasitic neighbors is gonna be a non-issue. This time, anyway.

I think I've mentioned them before, but when you go to buy guns, If you are limited by cost:
-Used Remington 870, or Mossberg 500. Does everything.
-S&W Model 10.  Cheap, and easy to shoot.
-KelTec PF9.  Inexpensive gun and ammunition, and drops into a pocket easily.

Thanks for the pointers, Kaso. I've actually been leaning towards a Mossberg 500 for a couple months, and the basic models run cheap enough around here that buying one new won't be an issue. Likewise, I've been lusting after a pencil-barreled Model 10 ever since ArmedNerd posted pics of his new (bull-barreled, but still dang fine-looking) wheelgun. Never considered a PF9 before, though. I'll give it some thought.

I'd personally make a deal with the local wrecking yard to tow the abandoned vehicle off your property.

I'm sure if you did a little research into the local ordinances there are plenty of creative solutions. For example I'm sure those ATV's make enough noise to harass your livestock, most places that's a big deal.

I've personally found walking up to people, and asking if there is something I can help them with works pretty well. I usually then explain how their behavior is either illegal or rude and politely ask them to stop. It has worked well so far.

Just this last week out camping there were some yahoos spinning doughnuts next to our camp sight, and the dust was blowing right into us. I flagged them down and pointed out which way the wind was blowing. They were very apologetic and went off to raise hell somewhere else.

Of course I'm 6'4" in the neighborhood of 280, and may be wearing a sidearm; so that could help.

The Model 10 is a better gun to learn to shoot with, the PF9 is better to conceal.  If you can only have one of them, get the S&W.  The KT is snappy, and will cause flinching, and other bad habits in a novice shooter.  The trigger (DAO design) is also very difficult to master.  The Smith's DA pull is much easier to learn.

Depending on what kind of wheels they have on the truck, you don't need a tractor.  Just run the chain through one of the wheels and the emergency chain attachment point on the trailer hitch, and then lock it together.

That could have some interesting results if they don't notice it before they try to drive off.

I know a lot of the suggestions here have been tongue in cheek and venting, but just to be safe I will second the comment that booby traps are probably illegal - and if not, if somebody gets hurt on something you strung out - even though they're trespassing - better make sure your homeowners policy is paid up 'cause you will get sued.

    Just be careful.

    Bill

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention - having the trespassing vehicle towed is a good idea -'cause then they will have to pay a fortune in towing and storage fees to get their truck back. They won't soon forget having to write that check out the next time they think about trespassing. Hit 'em where it hurts!  You'll need to check your local ordinances though - most places require that signs be posted warning of towing, with very particular language and the relevant code section listed.

What a sec, Bill. Don't mean to be an arse, but.
You are saying that some nimrod knowingly trespasses on YOUR property and it's legally your responsibility to make sure they KNOW that THEY are trespassing and what the consequences will be???

Simple as that. Regardless of the 'ordinaces' and bureaucratic 'rules' and 'policies'.

It's on my land. I want it removed.

I didnt say it was right or that it made sense - it sucks basically, but it is what it is.

You think that sucks? Just wait till the first yahoo hurts himself while trespassing on your property and then tries to sue you - then you'll really be pissed!  Yeah, he might lose and get tossed out of court, doesn't mean make you feel any better when you're defending the case until that point. Or, even better, your insurance company will decide it's cheaper to pay him off than it would be to fight it, even if the would win - so, numbnuts gets a payday!

There was a case in my state where a land owner accosted two hunters who were trespassing without permission.  The landowner killed one of the hunters, and was shot in self defense by the surviving hunter, who was not charged.  Some trespassers are class A jackwagons.  Some are just ignorant or mistaken.  Keep the moral and legal high ground.

Trespassing:  when you enter someone else's property, you are trespassing.  You trespass when you walk through the front door of a store to buy something during business hours.  When the mail carrier walks up my front walk to deliver my copy of Ammo & Blamo he is trespassing.

Illegal trespassing:  trespassing when you are not allowed to, either because the land is posted, a structure is secured, or you have been notified (persona non grata) that you are not welcome.

One reason booby traps will get you in trouble is there are people who have legitimate and legal reason to trespass.  If the fire department responded to protect your property, or a police officer showed up to arrest illegal trespassers, and that emergency responder stepped on a punji stake, you would be wrong to have put it there.  Booby traps are like shots fired at random.  You are responsible.

Law regarding impounding vehicles varies from state to state.  Find out what applies where you live, so you can have the offending rig hooked and hauled as fast as possible, and stay on the right side of the law.

If you reasonably believe trespassers are committing some other crime (poaching, providing alcohol to minors, destruction of property, illegal burning) and report that to police, they may respond faster.

Where you store your farm equipment or building materials is your business, as long as it is on your property.

A pair of sidecutters works pretty well on valvestems, rubber or metal.  The subsequent investigation usually revolves around why the vehicle in question was in a location posted by the landowner and not why the tires were deflated.
