America's Oh! S**T!! Moment
« on: November 02, 2011, 08:25:41 pm »
This is a pretty interesting read. My personal belief is we, as a country, have been sliding down the slope since FDR's reign and the New Deal and it accelerated under Lyndon Johnson's Great Society crapola.

http://www.thedailybeast.com/newsweek/2011/10/30/niall-ferguson-how-american-civilization-can-avoid-collapse.html

and then, after reading that, check out "The Threat of Revolution Grows":

I would suspect that I have already been or soon will be identified as "chicken little". But in my defense, i am well educated and well experienced and well traveled. I have taken a tour of third world countries and offset that by a couple of travels to some other 1st world countries. i am also 'older".

I have to admit, that when i look around, both nationally and globaly, I really get very nervous. I think bad times and possibly cathestrophic times are coming.

People have been dooming and glooming for years.
But this time around I started putting away ammo.
About three new guns in the past few years means I like shooting and think maybe we need more guns and more practice.
    So...you ain't paranoid.

You could argue that Lincoln started the demise.  The Civil War of Northern Aggression against the states was the big tipping point in the balance of power between the states and the fed.  But yes FDR didn't help things with his Raw Deal crap.

Amen Bud. I agree with you. I'm out in the street daily from upper crust levels to the gutters and I'm reading the same signs. I've never felt this alarmed before. In fact I've been rather nonchalant about it all and figured it would all blow over ... But not this time.

Zombies are the barometer. Every day its discovery channel and history channel channel 2012 predictions and pandemics and asteroids and global warming. We have earthquakes and tsunamis and tornadoes and hurricanes on the news so often we almost don't notice. Five years ago I had never heard of EMP's or coronal mass ejections or TEOTWAWKI. Was watching the dow today at work like I do quite often. The lovely graphs they use look like a heart attack victims EKG. The Greeks are calling the economic shots right now and the rest of the world is flinching. Walmart has a food storage section. No one feels safe and secure anymore. Oh yeah- lets not leave out infest- er I mean occupy wall street. And obama...... :banghead
And zombie movies and books are wildly popular. It simple- really. We transfer all the fear and angst and worry we are experiencing to something much simpler and easier to deal with (at least for those of us with enough firepower). The one apocalypse that inst going to happen. Ever. And we embrace it. We can relate to it. We read the books and we watch the movies and we like it because we all feel that things are getting really really bad and we can transfer all that to the zombie apocalypse and relax for a while. That's how I can tell things are bad. Zombies.

I am not the best educated man in the world, I am not a mathmatician by any stretch of the imagination (I'm lucky to keep my checkbook balanced), I don't watch the news as regularly as I should (it's more of a random sampling type of thing).  I don't understand the intricacies of the stock exchange.

But I do understand that (1+1=2)-10= OH s___! We're screwed.  I understand the while the economy isn't quite a train wreck yet, it's somewhere around the next bend, if something isn't done (Ever seen the movie "Unstoppable"?).  There is no one competent at the controls, and like the movie, everyone is ignoring the guys that know what to do.  And getting pissed at them, for trying to do what's necessary to fix the problem, and for interfering with the stop gap efforts of those that don't have a friggin' clue.

It doesn't matter when it started, it doesn't even matter who started it.  What matters is, "What're we gonna do about it now?"

I agree with preparing for the worst, just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean no one's out to get you.  But I also hope for the best.

I feel the same way Bud. I hope the true "bad days" never come to fruition. But it never hurts to be aware and prepared. Something all of us on WTA are on board with. A few of my friends and family in NYC thought "Nah, it's not going to happen" and "You have all that stuff?!?!"
They've been changing their tune over the months now. Some have even asked if they could come to my house if it got that bad. I'd gladly accept them with open arms and heart. But I posed the question, "It's a long haul. How would you get here?" Told them to do their research, ask me a question anytime, and prepare in the meantime.
