Man commits suicide by decapitating himself in West Dallas

"Drivers watched in horror as a man decapitated himself Wednesday in an grisly suicide in the middle of a busy West Dallas intersection, police said.

Witnesses said the man tied one end of a rope around his neck and the other around a fire hydrant, got into a van and hit the gas, decapitating himself.

The man, identified by the Daily Mail as Hugo Rodriguez, 35, scribbled something in Spanish on his van before the horrific event took place, according to reports.

Police say no one else was injured and they are now investigating. It was not known what was written on the van."

While assigned to Violent Crimes Division I worked some unusual suicides but I gotta give this guy points for originality! I'm told that he wrote "Santa Muerte" on the side of his van.

I worked a suicide where a woman in Fort Worth cut her throat with an electric knife, staggered around the whole house bleeding on every wall and finally died in the kitchen floor in a perfect circle of blood as she convulsed out. By the time the neighbors called it in a week or so later her dog had eaten her feet.

Jesus christ why do people like the messy, painful methods of suicide?

fluff man if I was going to kill myself (not that I would), I would choose a hell of a lot less painful and quicker method than many people choose.

That's the legend that every pawn broker tells you in AZ. There's also the story of the guy who went to a pawn shop with a single live round and asked to look at a gun. Same results. :shocked

It was a pawn store on Central in Phoenix. If it was an urban legend it fooled the Republic. Which all things considered probably wouldn't have been hard.

Definitely original, and had a huge potential for collateral damage - his headless corpse still has the foot jammed down in a one ton unguided missile. What if he' d been heading towards a school yard? Suicide is the cowards way out, and if I am reported as a suicide, yes, investigate. That would be the last thing I would ever do.

I watched a friend kill himself a long time ago. We hung out with his wife and kids for a while after that, but then lost track of them. I was watching a program on the Utah state prison and figured out what had happened to his wife when they started interviewing some of the female population. Then a year or two back his son made the news when he pulled an empty gun on the cops and joined his dad wherever the hell he is now. When you do something like that, you don't just do it to you. It is a cowards way out. I tried to locate the spot on the mountain where we had spread his ashes so I could relieve myself, but it happened over twenty years ago and I couldn't locate it. Bummer that.
Think of the poor cops and the paramedics who had to clean up after that moron decapitated himself, not to mention anyone just in the wrong place at the wrong time close enough to see it happen. It all just serves to piss me off........ :bash :banghead

Just over six years ago, Mom and I tried and failed to talk my uncle, her brother, out of taking his own life. We failed. At least Oxycontin & tequila isn't messy.

In the weeks and months that followed, a lot of skeletons came tumbling out of Mom's side of the family's closet. Knowing what I know now, I understand why he did it. I don't agree with his rationale and his decision, but I understand. Side note, it's a good thing my maternal grandfather expired before Mom reconnected with his family - my grandmother divorced him long before I was born, and he finally kicked the bucket maybe three years ago - 'cause if I had ever found that rotten b@st@rd drunkard son of a b*tch (with apologies to all the rotten b@st@rd drunkard sons of b*tches in the world) I'd probably be doing time right now.

That said, if you're going to whack yourself, at least have the decency to make it quick at neat. The trauma on your family and/or and innocent witnesses/bystanders will be horrific enough without you making it a spectacle or a gore-fest.

And echoing what's been said above, if my cause of death is ever ruled a suicide, investigate the hell out of it and then avenge me, because it'll definitely be a cover-up. I've seen first-hand what suicide does to your loved ones, and there is no way in hell I'll ever put my family though that nightmare again.
