Hope everyone has a great day with family and friends! Here at Casa Del Norse, being single, I rarely find reason to use the oven, as most things that one cooks in the oven are designed to feed several people.

As I put the first pie in to bake this morning, the oven is smoking but good-  The previous three times the oven was used?  I was seasoning new cast iron.........

This may be considered as the true palladium of liberty. . . . The right of self defence is the first law of nature: in most governments it has been the study of rulers to confine this right within the narrowest limits possible. Wherever standing armies are kept up, and the right of the people to keep and bear arms is, under any colour or pretext whatsoever, prohibited, liberty, if not already annihilated, is on the brink of destruction- St. George Tucker, Blackstone's Commentaries

    David Codrea's annual Thanksgiving essay.

    www.examiner.com/article/only-progressive-turkeys-thankful-for-opposite-day-role-reversal

Time was, the turkey was considered a game bird. The Pilgrims at Plymouth feasted on them. Generations later, Ben Franklin considered it such a useful fowl that he nominated it for the national bird.

Of course, this was in the days when the right to bear arms was taken for granted, when free people hunted turkeys for sustenance, all the while honing marksmanship that would serve them well in time of need.

Fast-forward to present-day Boston, a place of sacred tradition, the literal forge for our heritage of individual liberty. Except Boston is now a place where traditions have been betrayed. Its current overlords have succeeded in disarming the whole people in a way that General Gage could never have conceived possible.

So successful have these rulers been that the city that gave us Sam Adams and Paul Revere is now a city under siege, and this is fittingly ironic if you think about it, by wild turkeys. So helpless and hapless are Boston's modern-day patriots, they can do little except retreat from the aggressive gobblers, escape, hole up and plead for rescue from the very authorities that enforce public impotence.

This is what the heirs of The Sons of Liberty have been reduced to. This is what they have allowed, and in many cases, demanded. Human beings, with dominion over the earth, scurrying from turkeys. The tolerated degradation of the masses is damned near complete.

This does not escape the notice of those who impose their tyranny upon us. What new outrage are they now free to impose? What can't they do? After all, we're talking about subjects who would cede their birthright to birds.

The greasy-lipped masters have to be laughing like hell as they reach across their table of plunder and rip off another drumstick...

AFTERWORD: The original incident prompting this was written in 2000. In the true spirit of effective Massachusetts government, 14 years later, it's looking like a spree grows in Brookline.

On a personal note to my friends and supporters: Thank you for spending time in my little corner of the internet and thank you for sharing my links. May you have as much to be thankful for as I do.

    Have a blessed Thanksgiving.

Let me add my wish for a happy Thanksgiving to all here.

Happy Thanksgiving to all! I gorged myself on venison, cranberries, and potatoes, etc. now I'm relaxing by the wood stove trying to get the energy to go get a piece of pie. I hope everyone's day is as good as mine.

The wife and I ate some wild piggy I arrowed a month or so back. It was about a 100 pound piggy, and it was agreed to be very tasty. The entire house(doggies included) lapsed into a pork induced coma around 3pm. So it was a good day.

The whole Pleb family group will do our Christmas/Thanksgiving dinner on Dec 13. So it is still a bit until we get a full feast on.

I've seen allot of things people are thankful for this week and I've gotta agree, before I tell everyone about this week I want to make sure everyone realizes it's not all bad;) I'm very thankful for my customers, you help us every time you recommend my rigs to someone or decide you need a new holster and I appreciate that. I'm very thankful that we're home and close to family and friends even if we don't get to spend enough time with one another since it's always busy. I'm very thankful that for the most part Eli and Sarah and myself have been pretty healthy and happy this year. Eli has been such a joy to the whole family and it really makes me a proud father to see him grow. Overall I'm just thankful god has blessed our family and it's good despite the bumps along the path.

Now onto the week, I knew this week was going to be a bit crazy, we had Thanksgiving planned with Sarah's folks on Turkey Day then this weekend family Thanksgiving with all of my family since we fill out a space it makes sense to keep them separate. So Monday and really over the weekend I was trying to tie up all the loose ends on a few orders that have been moving more slowly through the process than I'd like. IE I just haven't had the time in the shop to get them out any sooner or things went wrong and I had to rebuild. So I had woke up with a sore throat, but I figured temp changes etc, sinuses are acting up no big deal. Well got worse as the day went on but I got a bunch of stuff done. Well around 5 o'clock I got a call from my dad who lives not far from here just a minute in the car and as the temp dropped and things froze he fell on the ice and got hurt and needed me to come help get him up. So I grabbed Sarah and jumped and ran to go see what happened. Got there and he's hurting so we get him up and in the house and he doesn't want to go to the ER. Dad I'm pretty sure you'll read this but you know where I get my stubborn streak;) So with all of his health issues he's pretty sure he broke some ribs in the fall and at this point I'd decided we're going to the ER. I jumped in the Jeep got us into town, ate at the fast food joint on the way in because this isn't his first ER visit and knows they won't let him eat once we get there.

Get to the ER get checked in, they poke and prod and give each other bad looks about how things look as far as ribs go. Runs to x-ray and hears the tech say "holy s___"... Well then you know something went well. He wouldn't tell him what or how many were broken so he came back to the ER while we waited. Well long story short, 8 ribs fractured on the side he fell on. My dad has a hell of a pain tolerance after all the gut surgeries and back surgeries if he's hurting most people would be passing out. So he tries to convince them to let him go home since they want to keep him. Of course they keep him since they have to make sure he didn't puncture a lung or anything and insure he can breath properly. So he goes to the room, sends me home since it's getting late and nothing I can do.

I forgot to mention the ride in the roads were bad, like 45ish max speed a little sliding around in 4wd. But I was hurrying a little trying to get there in case the pain level increased. So going out of the door to the ER, lots more snow has come down in the hours we'd been waiting and seeing. So I grab the snow brush clear the car get it started clear the windows etc. Head for home, 25mph the whole way. Can't see anything much out the front window with the headlights on dim because of the snow, more less watching for headlights and driving by the snowbank out the passenger window. Hour and a half later got home, put dad's rifle away that he had set out to hunt with before he fell and went home to bed.

Got up at around 4ish AM feeling like I was run over by a truck, dizzy, hot, cold, fever, aching and probably the worst sore throat I can remember having is still kicking through the neproxin and Tylenol I'd been eating regularly. Made it to my chair covered up with a blanket and bar going to the bathroom and back to bed at night I pretty much spent all of Tuesday and most of Wednesday in bed, other than I got pissed and decided to go haul in wood for my parents since dad was still in the hospital and didn't want Sarah to have to go do it. I managed and did about 20 minutes of shop work that took me 3 hours. But I did get one rig done but once I got home I was worthless.

Yesterday we planned to go to town, well fever broke was feeling fair, not good and my voice is barely audible sounds like I'm chewing gravel. But I'm functional and based on symptoms other than my voice unlikely contagious. Had a good meal, not much of an appetite but ate well because I've been forcing myself to eat to keep some of my strength up since I don't have time to be sick. Got home late, brought in firewood and got settled in, the cold air didn't do my lungs or throat any favors at all like drinking fire with each breath. Then 2am, if you read my previous post, a bunch of things happened with my water softener. Leading to water leaking and generally pissed.

Today feeling slightly better but more run down after running around yesterday. Buddy Nick showed up to do firewood;) I'm not quite to that point yet, he didn't know I'd been sick all week. So he did wood and I did some work around here Sarah has been trying to get Eli's room done, so we hauled things between the house and shop and moved some things into the house. Nick got his wood and headed home, I got wood in down at my folks place and got things ready for the get together tomorrow.

It's been a long week, and I'm still thankful that everyone is mostly healthy and happy but I'm also very very thankful that this week is over today. I need a fresh start next week. I can overcome allot of things trying to keep up with orders and in the shop, but this week was a test on all fronts. I'll be shipping that holster out as soon as I'm done typing this it's several days later than I had planned and honestly I don't feel up to being in the shop right now. But it bugged me all week that I didn't get it done before getting sick so it's going now and once I'm done out here I'm going to the house to sit in my chair and drink something hot and eat another handful of cough drops. I'm done;)

If anyone is waiting for an email or phone call well especially on the phone I really can't be heard much hopefully tomorrow will be better but in the next couple days it will either be better or Sarah will have to handle the calls until it gets back to normal. Emails likely tomorrow morning I'll catch up fully I did some but if they required me to look at something in the shop or do some research I wasn't able to do it yet.

Happy Thanksgiving and I hope you all had a good one;)

    Luke

Oh and Dad is doing fine, sore will be for a while. But still like always pissed he can't be out hunting and earlier today was trying to convince me to put his ice cleats on his boots so he could go outside. Going to have to hide his boots if he keeps being this damn stubborn. Though this week Sarah several times made comparisons between him and I while I was doing things I shouldn't have while sick. So I'm not sure where I get it;)

Nightcrawler isn't in DC, is he?

An ex of mine ( she's an ER doc in DC), posted to Facebook something to the effect of "If your ER visit includes a broken window, treatment from the therapeutic taser, and more injuries than you came in with, you're doing it wrong."
