Title: Favorite political quote
Post by: goatroper on July 16, 2020, 07:14:57 pm
This is from 2016, but still applies, especially Mr. Reynolds' quote at the end.  After all, why vote for the lesser evil?

WE’RE LIVING IN A YEAR WHEN THIS HEADLINE IS PERFECTLY COMPREHENSIBLE: Demon god Cthulhu seen as possible third-party candidate.

“Cthulhu has been running for the presidency throughout the decades in one form or another. Most Americans think it as a joke,” said Samir al-Azrad, press secretary for Cthulhu for America, in an email interview with the Washington Examiner. “And indeed, in more ‘civilized’ times, humanity has been mostly uninterested in the glory of a Cthulhu-driven apocalypse. But 2016 is turning out to be an excellent year to bring the word of Cthulhu to the masses.”

Honestly, if I were Cthulhu, I’d look at 2016 and stay home.

I've seen a few bumper stickers to that effect over the years.  Wry, gallows type humor has always been a draw for me and those bumper stickers definitely hit that target.

I think if I was living in one of the war zones that used to be a major American city I might be convinced that Cthulhu had won the previous mayoral contest.  No need to imagine Lovecraftian horrors loose upon the land when the daily news coverage is such a rich vein of similar material.  Many years ago the iconic storyteller Ray Bradbury wrote a story titled; " Something Wicked This Way Comes. ".   Indeed.

Somewhat disconcerting that SMOD lately seems like such an attractive option.

Hey, we have comet nearby.  Anyone remember the movie "Night of the Comet"?

Yup.  Been a while but I seem to remember it.

"Maximum Overdrive" revolved around a comet, too, IIRC.

I seem to remember that one too.  I used to watch a fair amount of late night TV back in the day and Blockbuster was always good for a sackfull of bargains from the B movie section.   And yes, I always rewound them before bringing them back to the store.    :cool
