One thing for the brits to remember:
If an attack is happening in the middle of a road, and you are sitting in a car, you have a very deadly weapon at your disposal, should you choose to use it.
And for the 'risk to the victim'...if you are down and someone is chopping at you with a machete, that's bad enough that a tire rolling over you in the attempt to drive the attackers away is acceptable.
