Fake Marine Recon Sniper?
« on: August 03, 2012, 12:31:11 pm »
I posted this over on the beretta forum and I thought you guys might find it interesting.

So for the past year at work there has been this guy in another department who keeps dropping hints about being a "recon sniper for the marines".

Here are a couple of the things he's said,
I'm good at spotting typos because my eyes were trained for precision in the marines.
I was shot while in active duty but I was so valued by the marines that they had me undergo special surgery so there is no scar from the bullet wound.
I trained at a secret elite sniper base so I can't tell you where I was stationed.

And when asked about when he was actually in the marines(we've seen his resume and he didn't mention it and there isn't room timewise),
I was deployed on month long tours while I was a student at the University of Tampa
They let me do online courses while I was in the war zone although I had regular classroom time while I was back on campus
It's hard to concentrate on homework while there is live fire outside.

So today while he was trying to impress my co-worker(a young female), I asked him what rifle he used.
fake sniper: "the barrett"
josh: "ok..."
fake sniper: "but not the normal one, this was one that you can't even read about on the civilian market"
josh: "really, what caliber was it?"
fake sniper: "oh man, you are putting me on the spot, it's hard to remember, it was like, 5 years ago... uhmm, three eighty maybe?"
josh: "that doesn't sound right, so you're saying you were that specialized but you don't remember what kind of gun you used?"
fake sniper: "well it was fun to shoot, I can tell you that much. But I had to turn it in when I was discharged."
josh: "well, yeah..."
fake sniper: "I know right? But they let me keep my sidearm."(big smile)
josh: "so, i've got a sidearm or three."
fake sniper: "yes but mine was a marine issued sidearm, you see I was a special classification as a civilian but I could still get called for secret missions."
josh: " I don't really believe you."
fake sniper: " but it's true..."
josh: "ok, I just think it odd that you don't know what caliber you shot."
fake sniper: "hey man, I just shoot them, it doesn't matter to me what I'm shooting."
josh: "really? so there is no difference in ballistics and windage adjustments etc... depending on what gun you are shooting?"
fake sniper: "look, it's been five years and I went through a lot of mental ****"
josh: "ok..."

So those of you that have served(thank you by the way), is there any possibility that he could have been a full time student at UT and been deployed on multiple tours of duty in combat areas as a "recon sniper for the Marines" ?  :rotfl
Is there any way of checking up on him short of asking to see his DD214?

I thought about offering to let him come with us the next time we go to the range but I'm not sure I want a crazy person that I've pissed off anywhere near a loaded gun.
Other than that he is good for comic relief at least.

peace,
Josh

You don't need to check up on him.  He's 100% completely full of s___ and it should be obvious to almost anyone who's been in the military, much less the Marine Corps specifically.

You want to really p'0wn him?  Find a real Marine veteran and have him confront this douche.  Make popcorn and record it on your phone.

Total BS.  I wasnt a marine but i know there is no top secret surgeries or super spy college kids or secret sniper bases or snipers that dont know what rifle/caliber they use. Its been 7 years since my first deployment and i remember exactly what weapons I was using, how many rounds i had and the layout of my kit.  Its the details that stick with you like it was yesterday.  Call that douche out or like the esteemed Nightcrawler said, have a real marine confront him.

He's so full of it, his eyes are brown.
    Plastic surgery for scarring?
    Super secret sniper base?
Never cared enough to learn what caliber he shot?

I've been out of the Marines for twenty years. I've had a stroke and memory loss due to damage caused by the stroke.

I remember what caliber the USMC sniper rifle used then.
    And my M16
    and my 1911
and even the 'retta they tried to get me to take.

Tell him he's so full of s___ his breath stinks and if any REAL jarheads hear that, good luck finding his teeth.

    Not a threat...just sayin' it wouldn't be wise.  ;)

They still call me back for secret missions, too.

Well, I "try" to tell the wife that.  Even she knows that's BS.

I concur with all of the above.  He must be quite the loser.  And here I am getting shot at so he can talk it up like he is some Hero.  Do me a favor and tell that dude to shut the f__k up.  There are REAL MARINES, real soldier, sailors and airmen out here dying everyday.  While that punk is in his cubicle young men are patrolling hoping like hell they don't step on an IED.  This guy spits on every young man who has lost his life over here and elsewhere.  What he is doing is about as disgraceful as it gets in my book.

Tell him he should join the Marine Corps League here in town. They would have a field day with him, but he would never be that stupid. Just call him a fake to his face and tell him to save his bull crap stories.

I've already done that and he hasn't even said a work related word to me for the past week.

    Hmmm...
I spent 9 years, 3 days, 12 hours, 15 minutes, and 32 seconds in the United States Air Force as Active Duty from July 1986 to July 1995.
I can remember a lot of stuff about the birds I worked on.
Everyone in the Military remembers these things.
I remember the unit designations over the years.
I was a part of SAC, Strategic Air Command. And was there when they retired her for the ACC, or Air Combat Command.
I Belonged to the 8th Air Force, 5th Bomb Wing, 5th Maintenance Group, 5th OMS or Organizational Maintenance Squadron, Specialist Flight, Bomb-Nav. When I started.
If I can remember those things, this douche should remember what caliber rifle he shot!

At least I can still read up on my old base on the net!!!

I'm no marine,or in the military for that matter but I do know what that guy is doing is so low and scummy its unbelievable.

I have friends and family that have in the past and are currently serving so I have a great amount of respect for folks that fight for us over seas.

I couldn't personally take someone posing as a marine sniper of all to pose,I would have to either call him out in a very disrespectful way or just knock a couple teeth out depending on his attitude.

I can tell you this guys full of s___, and I'm a mere Chair Force Trash Hauler. Like some other guys have said, I can still recite numbers and procedures from aircraft I flew 5 years ago.

I was drinking with a former HH-60 gunner last night, and even hammered drunk, the guy could tell me what his loadout was when we first pushed into Iraq. About eleventy different kinds of guns, that many calibers, and eleventy different kinds of ammo for each one. He told me what the aircraft carried, how many rounds, what he had on his vest, where he carried stuff, etc. And I know just how drunk he was because I bought half of his beers.

If this idiot can't remember one caliber, sober, he's completely full of it.

Well we could pick him up a Marine Issued Drill Instructor who could help him remember. But then that would be an insult to the air that Instructor had to breath to find out that this guy was full of it.
Waste of a good butt chewing and probably would never find what remained of the POS afterwards.
Probably have to take the DI to the infirmary to have his colon cleansed of twice digested bull crap!
Nah...this guy will meet a real service member one day.
    I hope it's me.

Just follow the trail of yellow this puke leaves behind after I get through with telling him my family's military pedigree for over 230 plus years.

And yes. We had Marines, Army, Navy, and Air Force/Army Air Corp.

Word of caution,if this PO S will lie about this, what good is anything he says?  If he is in any kind of lead position,be careful as his willingness to lie indicates his unwillingness to accept responsibility for his real actions.
