Employment Opportunities
« on: September 26, 2014, 12:54:09 am »
I read that a WTA member was just fired. I checked with the tribe and there aren't any IT positions open but there is always something there opening up in addition to other fields. Good pay and excellent benefits.

Just keep checking week to week for openings at

The site is pretty lame so download the free weekly pdf of the paper to see the employment opportunities. Its listed toward the rear of the paper.

Silencerco in Utah is hiring for machinists.  They will train.  They are currently running 24/7.  Right now for the next month people are required to work weekends as well as they try and keep on top of production.  I can provide an email addy to send resumes.  Just send me a PM.

Does the Tribe allow ANYONE to apply?

I just ask because on our local one (not sure on the others), they literally will not hire anyone non-Indian.  The only non-Natives are about half the medical personal at the hospital, but other than that it's a strict no-go.   I mean......even if they don't KNOW their job and have to hire outside help 2 days a week to fix whatever they screwed up......

Good to know  :cool   Must be true that our reservation is kinda backwards (Thought it myself many times, and had it said a few times too).

    Grant,

Its that way here to some extent but tech, medical and other highly trained fields are open to any one. Indian preference is practiced here but when there are no qualified tribal members they have to hire non-indians.

The casino (Harrah's) is also hiring constantly but some may only be part time. They have IT and other tech slots at times

Aaaand it looks like I've got a new gig: doing IT for a department at Georgia State University.  :cool

Now comes the hunt for that magic spot on Atlanta's map that allows for (in order): a good school system for my son, reasonable housing prices, and a reasonable commute (anybody who's made the mistake of driving through Atlanta at rush hour knows how much it SUUUUUCKS).

a few years back we took a family trip to Florida.  My Uncle, upon learning we were going through Atlanta, gave me the following advice.
Get in the far left (HOV) lane, , , ,   and keep both feet flat on the floor.  We went through, white knuckle, at 80 plus.  Never again. :panic

for a single occupant,  I'm guessing HOV lane is an invitation to a ticket.

    Yeah, that's pretty much it.

    And yeah, they do:

    Quote
    https://dps.georgia.gov/high-occupancy-vehicle-lanes

Persons who violate the HOV lane law are guilty of a misdemeanor, punishable under Code Section 40-6-54.

Fines and penalties for HOV violations:

First Offense: $75.00 maximum (plus court fees)
Second Offense: $100.00 maximum (plus court fees)
Third Offense: $150.00 maximum (plus court fees)
Fourth Offense: $150.00 maximum (plus court fees), and one point on the driver's record.

I imagine they're right proud of the court fees...
