I don't know. I tried once when some a______ was shooting at the FOB, but he got wise and took off before the heat came down on him. I meant the general recklessness, incompetence, and going AWOL to some random Iraqi's house.

Hmm. That reminds me. There was this Airman in my shop once. He was pretty dumb, and not in the sense that you think. Yeah he married the fat girl from SC and bought a Chrysler Sebring that hes probably still paying off and such. More of a so dumb that he spent his first two deployments watcing Iraqis mop the bathroom type of dumb. His supervisor was a green to blue type, prior infantry. From an unsavory part of Atlanta no less. One day this Airman asks this during lunch:

"So in Hurt Locker.........can he really do that?"

His supervisor turns and gives me a really weird look:
"You wanna answer that one?"

Me: "Not really."

So he nods and an awkward silence after that ensues for a while.

"No really, can you do that?"

You ever get that feeling something bad is about to go down? I was working overhead that morning, and had a Lineman's wrench resting at the top of my toolbag that I set on the table.

Somehow or another I got a hand on his wrist before he got the wrench from my bag. I turned to the Airman and said, "No you can't leave the FOB on your own."

And now you know why I don't like Hollywood.

The most realistic parts of Hurt Locker: the scene at the end where he's all bewildered in a grocery store (I practically had an anxiety attack trying to buy shaving creme at the huge BX at Ramstein Air Base)...and...well, the homoerotic, alcohol-fueled wrestling scene. Aside from the knife being pulled that was actually pretty legit.

Protip: never play gay chicken with an EOD tech. Even if you, yourself, are actually gay, just don't do it. You have self-respect and restraint. The EOD tech doesn't. He is a disturbed wretch who, odds are, lacks the capacity for shame, has been around way too many explosions, has anger management problems, and is (about 70% of the time) an aggressive Type-A personality who simply can't stand to lose, at anything, ever.

You say to the EOD tech that he goes too far. He'll retort that YOU don't go too far enough!

I thought Gay Chicken was a strictly aircrew thing. I didn't know EOD was in on it. Aerial Gunners have a similar reputation.

Being that I was CE, I realize my perception of the Air Force was probably narrow, but I'm pretty sure everyone plays gay chicken. Well, maybe not MEO... my proximity to EOD in a sister flight leads me to conclude their shennanigans are something else entirely that I will not touch with a pole of any length.

I've done a fair amount of reading on this in past couple of days, especially since O'Neill has revealed himself to the public.....and I don't know why, but something about this whole thing seems a bit off....I can't quite put my finger on it.
