What to buy?
« on: October 16, 2016, 04:46:36 am »
So I'm conflicted.  I'm not sure how the election will go.  I have three guns that I would like to buy before things go south.  Not that I'm saying they will.  But I don't know what to buy, so I'm looking for the collective wisdom of WTA.

Ok, so my three options are an FN SCAR 17, a Sig P210 or a TNW Aero Survival Rifle.

The SCAR and P210 are Expensive.  The TNW is about 1/5 of the price of the other two.

I have plenty of ammo for the P210 and the TNW (both are pistol calibers).  I'd have to stock up on 7.62x51 ammo.

I already have a number of pistols in various calibers, and rifles in 5.56 & 30-06.

Any advice?

On those? Scar 17 or the Aero.   I don't see P210 prices jumping a lot.

Honestly I'd maybe stock up on ammo/mags.   I think EO's will be a bigger danger than outright bans, and EO's on imported ammo will drive ALL prices up through the roof.

I am thinking that in the worst case, (HRC + democrat blowout) we will only have a minor panic.  One of the chief reasons is complacency.  'We beat them back the last time, so we're good this time.'  Which is probably true, at least without another mass murder of kindergartners to serve as a catalyst.

This might change for the worst if she goes about calling for bans from the start, but who really thinks that is the way she wants to spend her first term political capital?  She is widely disliked by both parties, so she will have no 'mandate' to do any one thing.

Honestly, ammo will be the biggest factor.  Do not get the SCAR unless you can spring for a few years worth of ammo right now.  .308 is pricey on a good day, and yes, price and availability will be affected.  Not so much in a panic way, but the same way M855 shot through the roof when noise was made about changing the classification.

Single stack pistols will be least affected no matter what, and especially ones that cost $3k.

So that leaves the TNW.  Get that.  Compact, useful, and in a caliber which you are already set up for.

I'd get the TNW or SCAR.

I've bought quite a few in the last six months myself.   An SR9E,   M1 Garand,  Mosin Nagant,  and 3 AR-15 Lowers, and 2 AR-10 lowers.     So far, I've finished one AR-10 and one AR-15.  Still need to get the uppers for the other 3.

I loaded up on AR lowers.  THey are the guns I see with the biggest target on them, that I am interested in owning.  AK's, if they float your boat, would be a good bet too.

Also, mags.  I need to load up on 30 rounds mags for -15's and 20/25 round mags for -10's.

I'm actually thinking about thinning the herd a little bit, and using the capital to fund a couple of AR purchases, a buttload of ammo, and a bunch of magazines.  May throw some feelers out, to see what I can come up with.

I just bought a bunch of Glock 19 & 17 mags. Juuust in case. I will also actually use them. And should there be an EO regarding them, I have no moral quandaries about selling them for $250 each.

Get the SCAR because it's awesome. Prices will only go up, ban or not, and if you want it then get it anyway. The TNW is an oversized pistol IMO, but it's exactly that. My opinion.

I'm not saying you should use an M1A for home defense, but I'm also not saying you shouldn't.
