I participate in many groups in Facebook and it occurs to me that there are specific types of shooters. Some are only pistol. Some shoot only AR's. Others are strictly bolt rifles or shotguns. I don't see very many shooters that embrace all types of shooting.

So where do you fall?

I have a variety of guns, but my bread and butter is handguns followed by semi-auto rifles. Bolt rifles third. I have three or four shotguns, but haven't shot one for over a year. I also have a fair number of rimfire guns, but again, they don't get out much, except the Ruger Standard model.

I tend to shoot pistols more than anything else, and I have be honest, it's because I'm lazy. I only have to lug an ammo can, pistol, paper plates and a staple gun when shooting pistols. I can't remember the last time a fired a 5.56 AR, as the only AR that goes to the range anymore is the suppressed SBR 300BLK, and you guessed it, I shoot it on the pistol range (25 yards max). I'm getting older, grayer, balder, and fatter too.

I shoot everything, but don't do any formal competition.

I think most of my shooting is centerfire rifles, split evenly between autoloaders and manual actions (you left out lever actions, pump rifles, single shots, etc Steve!)

After those are handguns.

Most of my rimfire and shotgun shooting is when I'm hunting.

Sorry. I was only looking at what I had in my safe.

Besides, lever actions and pump guns are no longer useful.

For me, I originally started out as a Pistol shooter. But now I'm starting to gravitate toward bolt rifles, mainly because many of my local shooting friends are long range shooters. I've been "forced" to learn a lot about bolts and long range shooting, even though I wouldn't be considered a "real" shooter.

For the few competitions that I do attend, I am amazed at the disparity of skill between handgun and long gun. Many handgun shooters can't shoot with a rifle and many rifle shooters suck with a handgun. I guess I should have known this after watching all of those Top Shot episodes. They only excel in one style of shooting and suck at the others.

Obviously the UK's restrictive gun laws limit what I can shoot but I've found small bore shooting to be a lot more convenient than full bore. Small bore I can do in an evening or morning whereas my experience of full bore rifles has always needed an entire day.

You didn't give "All of the above" as an option.

For hunting (deer and hogs, mostly) it's bolt actions or lever guns. For small game, it's .22LR, either bolties or autoloaders (and for a good time, get a CMMG .22LR conversion kit for your 5.56 AR, it's more fun than should be allowed by law). For CCW, or home defense, it's usually an autoloader handgun. But then there's the home defense shotgun, and the double shotties for birds. Then there's the single-actions that get carried as backups when hunting, but wind up getting shot more for fun than for serious work.

What kind of shooter am I? Apparently, an ADHD-type shooter.

Shoulda had an "All" option. I picked handgun, semi-auto rifle and shotgun.

However I have EVERY thing and I shoot them ALL....lever actions, bolt guns, bolt action shotguns,etc.etc......

I am an infrequent shooter. There really is not a nicer way to put it. If I shoot 500 rounds combined in a calendar year, I am doing well.

So I will look at what I get the most enjoyment from shooting, in order:
- Mauser bolt rifle
- PCC (suppressed)
- PCC (loud)
- MSRs
- Shotguns
- Handguns

I own no rimfires.

So you guys shoot all of your guns on a regular basis? I think that's a little unusual as most people don't have that kind of time. I know Grant lives in nice Open country so he can probably do that from his doorstep every day. But most of us don't have time to set up targets for each type of gun. I know if I'm doing my bolt guns, I have to usually drive about an hour and then setup targets 600, 700, 800+ yards out and that takes time. If I'm pistol shooting, it doesn't take as much time but setting up steel still takes time.

Removed my vote, so I could put what I shoot all the time. Handguns are my favourite. They are the most useful to me as a cake eating civilian and I also find them to be the most challenging and fun.

I'm mostly a pistol shooter, but also shoot rifles and shotguns. I love shooting suppressed, so we have a couple pistol cans, a rifle can, and a rimfire can in ATF jail.

I'd say 90%-95% of my shooting has been handguns up to this point, primarily because I didn't own a rifle. Once my AR is 100% complete and I find/join a good rifle range, that will change significantly

Believe me, I appreciate every day where I live

Average:
Every day: I pack a handgun every day from rising from bed to going to sleep. Count on......30 rounds a week fired out of it at odd times, IE spontaneous stress relief, target of opportunity,etc.
Once a week at least shooting at prairie dogs, gophers,etc. with a bolt action.
Once a week practicing with a semi-auto MSR.
Once a week night-time....ummm.....patrols........with friends that usually involves either flintlocks, shotguns, semi-autos, handguns, .50BMG's, bolt actions or lever actions.
Okay really I don't know, I probably tend to shoot/practice with handguns more for defence practice, and semi-autos (5.56 and 7.62X39) for cost of ammo. However I shoot the others very often as well.

I've got a decent variety in the collection. I tend to lean more towards semi-automatic rifles, with a good number of military surplus bolt guns in there too. My favorites tend to be .30 caliber battle rifles (FAL, M1, M1A, AR-10, etc).

I also enjoy rifle shooting a lot more than handguns. However, I do not get to do it nearly as much as I would like. Even though Kansas is a very gun friendly and rural state, there are not many really good rifle ranges. All that open land is owned by farmers and has crops and/or cattle on it. There are a few 100 yard ranges, but not many. There is one 100 yard indoor range in Wichita that is fairly close by, but it's an hour+ drive to any of the outdoor ones. I'm hoping maybe I can talk my sister and brother in law into letting me set up a backstop out at their place at some point. It's still an hour drive, but at least I'd be able to see my niece and nephews and get to shoot without paying by the hour and dealing with the public range crowd.

I'd love to have a big metallic silhouette range here like I went to out in Arizona. We went to Adair Park outside Yuma, and it was loads of fun taking shots at the 500 meter target with my FAL.

I guess i am more handgun than anything, at least that's what i've been focusing my training on lately (defense, USPSA, bullseye). I was getting into Appleseed as an instructor (orange hat) this summer but also started teaching carry classes and that burned a lot of weekends. I'd really like to get into long dist precision shooting but don't have a lot of range options over 200m locally. We have one range an hour or so north of here that is 1000m, it's private and the wait list is 2-3 years. I am definitely getting into 3gun next year, might have to drop USPSA to do it though.

I've always believed that one should be well "rounded." While at the moment, I'm limited by budgetary constraints, I've tried to shoot well with all platforms. Be it handgun, long gun, or Howitzer. Magazine, or belt fed one should be at least familiar with as many platforms as possible.

Budget really is what limits my type of shooting. I'd say handgun most though I'm a far better shot with a rifle. I grew up shooting rifles and there is something easier for me in the platform. I do fair with a handgun or good enough could be better but it would require money I don't have;)

I can shoot really in any direction from my house or shop with handguns or rifles. So location isn't an issue out to around 100 yards. Beyond that I'd have to either knock down some trees or go to a longer range. Within about an hour there is a 1000 yard range though I don't have anything to shoot that with.

I shoot handguns mainly, there's an air conditioned range I belong to, and it is hot here most of the year. When it isn't hot, we have snowbirds, which clogs up the outdoor rifle range. And punching holes in paper does get boring (I hate it when my wife is right). So I need to find a good outdoor location that isn't an hour plus away so I can shoot steel. I'd love to learn how to shoot shotgun sporting clays.

To be honest I am just getting burned out at work so I don't enjoy guns like I used to. It is the reason my posting here has dropped off so much.

I hardly every hit the range anymore. Lack of time, lack of money, lack of interest. If I could cure the last one I am sure I could find more time and money to enjoy it.

I shoot at least 100 rounds of CCW ammo, out of my carry gun every month. And probably an equal amount of the backup ammo, divided between the single-actions and the 92 Winchester clone. And 20-50 rounds from the centerfire rifles that I use for hunting, and an equal amount from the AR. Plus the .22LR gang, which includes single-action revolvers, and bolt, lever and auto rifles, at least 100 rounds a month. I've got 250 yards behind the house for a range (with the berm on the property line).

The other side is that I work an odd schedule, 4-on, 4-off, alternating days and nights. Most times, I'm the only one within 100 yards of my rural mailbox.

I primarily shoot handguns, my yard range is limited to 50 yards. .22lr is a strong second, mainly with the kiddo. 100 yard range is through the local gun club, and is close maybe 15 min away, but only open on Sunday afternoons which is not convenient for me.

I miss my huge range at the old house. 5 min to shoot wherever you want as far as you want. It was a hoot sitting on the river bluff with a friend's range finder and shooting at ice flows. Pick out one and see who could hit it the most. But I have flown away from there.

So does that mean your handgun shooting will drop off? That's what I find. People start with one and then switch to something else. Eventually they'll come back. I'm doing a lot more rimfire shooting and lest handgun shooting but I want to rectify that.

Do you reload at all? I know you're not saving money with reloading but you can shoot a lot more. Especially if you get pulled bullets. I've seen guys get their cost down to about .30 - .40 per load round while reloading. They do it mostly for their 300 blackout but I think the difference between that and 7.62x51 is the amount of powder.
