The forum is pretty slow, and it being holiday time, it is worse.

I always found the question a bit self centered.  If this average planet circling an average star merits life, then who would even question that somewhere else in the cosmos would have life?  Either created or evolved, the argument works both ways.

Say something interesting even if only you care, then people will comment.  I got about 14" of snow in the last week, had to take care of that at home and my Dad's place, plus holiday stuff including prep for wife's trip to her mother's, Kid's holiday crap at the school, end of year extra work and all the normal stuff.  Does not leave me much time for thinking up things to entertain anyone else.  I am using the brain number just to sleep due to stress from all the stuff that is going undone.

I think the Desert Tech is interesting, but not interesting enough for a new thread.

Im still around.  Just extremely busy.  Taking over more of the family ranch responsabilities as dads knee and ankle are giving out.  ALso in the middle of cleaning out an older house that will become the years project for me and my wife to move into hopefully by next december.

Also became assistant chief of our local VFD a year and a half ago, but just recently undertook the massive task of trying to apply for grants and fix 20 years of neglected paperwork  :facepalm  Ignorance was really bliss there.

But we’re not average. To survive five extinction level events and still end up with Homo sapiens is the evolutionary equivalent of winning the lottery...over, and over, and over.  If the dinosaurs had dodged the Big One, we’d probably still have big reptiles and a minority of mammals. And no humans.

I read this the first time though but I'm not sure what you're seeing but there has certainly been threads posted since 2011, heck I've posted a bunch in the last year let alone the last 7;)

None the less, the forum isn't as active as it once was but there is still a fair number of us around. I'm around less, posting but I do read most days what is new etc. I think the biggest change over the years is the movement towards Facebook and short posts. Forums tend to be more long form and that's difficult on a phone, I can't speak for others but that's one reason I read but don't post. I hate posting on an on screen keyboard;)

I agree that posting from a phone is incredibly difficult. Still, 99% of my posts come from my phone. Whether that is an act of stubbornness or masochism on my part, I'm not sure.

Well typically when you see me post it's when I'm in the shop since I'm always on the computer out here with emails etc, but I try to limit my time not building holsters out here;) Which is why I don't post as often as I used to;)

How would we determine if we are average or not? The last I checked we have not found life on any other planets so far.

If we ever find life on multiple planets in the future. We may find we are incredibly average and surviving multiple events is so commonplace as to be unremarkable.

It is incredibly hard to reach any solid conclusion with a single point of data.

“It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the products of a deranged imagination.”

My dude was just asking if the forum is a ghost town  :facepalm .

I love discussing Sagan as much as the next guy, but the OP was regarding our microcosm on the internet, not the universe as a whole  :shrug .
