Cartridge ID
« on: August 19, 2020, 02:25:35 pm »
I am looking for some help identifying a cartridge that I found in my father in laws gun safe after his passing.  The round measures approximately 3 3/8" long. The head stamp reads as follows:

12 O'Clock- 4-49

3 O'Clock-   C

6 O'Clock-  7.62

9 O'Clock-  T with an E below it

The bullet appears to be almost silver in color but that could just be me.

Any help would be appreciated.

    Pictures would help.

    But, based in this information I am gonna guess French 30-06 post war:

    TE = Cartoucherie de Toulouse made the ammo
    C = Compagnie Française des Métaux à Castelsarrasin made the case
    4-49 = Q4 of 1949 production
    7.62 = 7.62X63mm (30-06)

    The load is probably the 7.62mm Modele 1949 Cartouche à Balle Ordinaire which is based on M2 ball.
