"2nd Amendment - Gun Owners Want to Lose their Rights"

I agree with the premise of this video.

Yet, the question remains:

Will the idiots strike again and again and again?

I'm basically on board with what the guy said and I applaud the public service nature of the video but .  .  .

Does he think he's the only one cleaning up after other people?  That dinky little mess he's referring to could all be packed out in a grocery bag.

The Arizona Gun Owner's group has packed out truck loads of garbage and trigger trash from some of our favorite shooting spots on public lands .
Twenty miles from where I am typing this a group of us - about twenty as I recall - made our way to the spot we chose for that day.  We unloaded our trash cans and empty  boxes, tarps and 55 gallon lawn and leaf bags and all our tools and then donned hats and gloves and spent the next four hours cleaning up as much as we could load into seven full sized pick up trucks.  Not a single round was fired that day.

BLM is going to do what BLM is going to do regardless what we do - good or bad.  If the powers that be decide to close an area to shooting it may or may not have anything at all to do with the subject of this video but it does illustrate the fact that a right isn't really a right if it is subject to revocation at the whim of those who consider themselves our masters.   The right to keep and bear arms presumes the right to use them in the manner they were intended to be used in and to do so on public lands is implicit in that understanding.   We have become all too familiar, of late, with the prospect of being ruled by politicians and bureaucratic toadies of every stripe based on the bad idea of the day.

Yes, the idiots will strike again.  They always do but for most of us its a two pronged attack.  It comes from those without a clue we simply have random encounters with and also those to whom great power has been given.  We are moving heaven and earth to find an effective vaccine for the Wuhan virus but I think we'd all be much better served by an effective vaccine for stupid.   :coffee

We pack out several trash bags every time my family goes shooting.  And to be honest, you usually can't tell we did anything.  A crew of 50 could maybe clean up a football field sized area in a day...That is how bad it is.

As far as people camping, that needs to go both ways.  I can't count the number of times I have rolled into the area where typically used for shooting and found tents pitched on top of the berm.  I will grant that it is not an "official" range, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to recognize from all the brass and hulls that it is a common shooting, not camping area.  If you have to go to the top of the berm to get a place for your tent that won't be over shotgun hulls, maybe it isn't a camping spot.

I do not see this issue much in the areas I visit here in Oklahoma. Most of that is likely down to OK not having a large amount of public land open to shooting.

I tend to find more trash left by campers and hikers than anyone else. This is especially true for the ATV and dirt bike crowd. I think cause they can haul more stuff in on an ATV.

Lots of BLM land here in Arizona is multi-use and sometimes there is encroachment between groups with a different purpose for being there.  As shooters we try to be considerate but as sqlbullet pointed out I have little patience for people who think once they've occupied a spot everything within sight or earshot is their domain.  If you camp on a range site - expect gunfire.  If you're dumping your old sofa and TV on the range site - expect gunfire and maybe a very strong recommendation to load up your sh*t, take it to the county dump and pay the fee like everybody else.

With all that in mind good shooting spots are guarded like good hunting and fishing spots are.  They are rigorously maintained by those who know of them and it would be hard to tell it was a shooting spot without a video of the shooting activity or a forensics team.

Area denial has also been seen in several locations usually accompanied by warning signs.   All illegal, of course, on public land(s) but then so is dumping and generally trashing the area.   :coffee
