Suggestions for M-4 style red dot optic?
« on: July 25, 2020, 08:48:16 am »
I'm thinking about putting a optic on a pre-ban Colt AR-15 with collapsible stock and carrying handle. I've had it for at least 30 years but my eyes aren't what they used to be with iron sights. I'm leaning towards a red dot optic of some kind but I don't know much about them. I have limited experience with an Aimpoint PRO on a HK MP5 but when I retired, the Government wanted their gun back. (those Bastages! :) )

I'd appreciate some suggestions for an appropriate optic and mounts for it.

If you could either get us a pic of the gun or describe it in a little more detail it might be helpful for pointing you in the right direction.  If you have what is essentially an A2 style rifle with a folding stock added to it the mounting options are somewhat limited.  Most of the red dot sights are designed to be mounted on a flat top style rifle or one with a fore end grip that provides a railed section.  I've seen scopes mounted on the top of the carry handle but they look awkward to use and prone to damage up that high.   :hmm
