Optic suggestions for my AR-10?
« on: July 09, 2020, 12:06:29 pm »
So after 3+ years my 7mm-08 AR-10 project is mostly complete.   However, I still need to get an optic for it.

There are some places running deals on a Vortex Sonora with mount included for $150 right now.  While it wouldn't be quite as nice as some of the higher end stuff, seems like it might fit my needs.

Another option is to pull the Burris XTR I have off of my other .308 AR and put it on this one, and then get something else for that rifle.   It's a really good scope, but fairly large.

I've also got an old Tasco 6-24x that I've got laying around that might work.  I'd have to buy a mount if I use that one though, that is also a bit more magnification than I would probably need.

I'd say use your best scope to wring out the new build and work up some good loads to see how well it can shoot.  After you've done that you'll have a better idea how the rifle handles with a big scope on it and whether you like it that way or need something different.
