Need a cheap AK sling
« on: April 16, 2017, 11:19:26 pm »
So we are coming up on the big KC Comicon at the end of this month, and I need to upgrade the sling I use with my costume gear.   I've got an actual surplus AK sling that works great,  it is the right length and is great for carrying the rifle.   The only problem is that it is green, and I need it in black to fit in with the rest of the gear.

A couple of years ago, I used the strap from a laptop bag.   It was the right color and length,  but the clip on the end was pretty crappy and kept coming undone.   I upgraded to one of these last year for the KC con and Dragoncon,  but I've found that it is too long and the bungie cords just make it bouncy and hard to carry.

So what I'm needing is a good, basic, black 2-point sling with the proper AK style clips on the end that is not ridiculously long and/or covered with tactical gadgets.  It doesn't have to work great for shooting since I'm only going to use it for carrying an airsoft rifle around while I'm walking on the convention floor and to hold it while I'm standing around at our booth.

I'd prefer something cheap,  but if it there was a more expensive option that I could also use at the range with my real rifles I would consider that too.   Any suggestions?

Can you get another surplus AK sling?  And a packet of Rit fabric dye?

This is the sling I've used on multiple rifles, including an AK:

Not the clips you are looking for, but it is inexpensive while still usable at the range.

I've never had good results with Rit dye. I tried to so something similar with some M16 magazine pouches and it just turned them a slightly darker shade of green, even after I left them in longer than the specified time.   I think it was the material they were made out of,  just didn't hold the color well.

My experience with AK gear, including Russian slings, is that the material is saturated with what appears to be a wax or preservative.  It makes sense that they would do that, but I can see where it would interfere with the dye.

I was looking for a Romanian RPK sling as they are black and were ALL OVER for awhile just about 6 months ago.

       Robertrtg is good to go.

Indeed.  I have dealt with them several times.  Highest recommendation.
