Lucid 2x magnifier falling out
« on: October 10, 2014, 11:45:16 pm »
Did anybody else purchase the 2x magnifier on the GunMojo group buy?  I mounted the sight on my MSAR STG-556, and every time I fire American Eagle 55-gr. 5.56NATO, after a few rounds the magnifier pops out.  It stays in if I am shooting the less powerful American Eagle 55-gr. .223Rem.  I emailed Lucid today, just wondered if anybody else has experienced similar problems with the threading of the magnifier.

I did purchase the whole set, but have never fired it with the magnifier.

That said, the magnifier screws in nice and tight.  Very solid.  I highly doubt that it would work its way loose after 'a few' rounds.

I personally don't like my Lucid with the magnifier, so if that is the problem, you can just have it...

Did it thread in easily?   I'm trying to figure out if it cross-threaded and stripped out or was undersize.....Mine was fine.   ANd I am guessing made in the same factory as the Vortex red dots (being the same type of design of magnifier) that I have had zero problems with as well.

21B,  Any follow-up from Lucid on this?  I'd be interested in what they did to resolve.

I took the sight to the range again last Saturday to make sure I had it screwed in well, still fell out after a few shots.  Shipped it out last week and Lucid emailed me yesterday saying they received the package.  Hopefully they will get back to me this week about the sight and warranty.

Update, I got a shipping notice that my red dot should be back tomorrow, don't know if they fixed or replaced it, but excellent service and turnaround time, and I love the sight, so a  :thumbup1 for Lucid.

Par for the course.  Jason stands behind his products like few others in the industry.

Well, another update--I got a whole new HD7 sight from Lucid, but they sent back my original magnifier.  Went to the range today, same problem, magnifier fell out after a few rounds.  Contacted Lucid again, hopefully this time they'll fix the problem.

I had the opposite problem with the HD7 screw in kill flash.  It would not screw in more than a couple threads. Jason was great.  Offered to send me another, but suggested that it was just lolerance stacking or excessive anodize coating on the kill flash.  He asked if I had any cutting oil, which I do. He said put a drop or two on the kill flash threads and work it back and forth as I screwed it on to see if that solved the problem.  In a minute or so it spun on down and stays flush in place.

I would ask Jason to replace the magnifier.  Alternatively you could try some very light thread lock that would still permit easy removal. Heck, try a tiny bit of plumber's putty on the threads before sending it back.

Tolerances may be a bit wider than Aimpoint or EOTech, but each has had its own issues (stripping out mount threads on T-1), recently, and I could buy three of these for one T-1, perhaps four, if shopping prudently.

I forgot to update the thread, sent another email to Jason and he sent me 2x magnifier, worked great and no problems.  I ended up selling the HD7, going with a lighter weight Vortex Sparc II or Aimpoint.

Thanks for the update.  Lucid's little M7 at 4.6 ounces is very nice.  I now have two.  One is on a 12 gauge handling stout recoil with no problems.  Nice features.  Everything that the HD7 has except only the circle dot reticle at 1/3 the weight and bulk.
