Tried the search function, didn't come up with much.  Here's the deal-

I'm leaning towards a good fixed 4 power for use on a 308(either my saiga or FAL).  While iron sights are fine, the cartridge is capable of much more with magnification.  I read on other boards that Burris isn't all that great.  OK, fine, but on my Rem 700 BDL in 30-06, the 3X9 fullfield II I'm running has been flawless.  Three shot one hole groups at 100 yards have happened several times with multiple shooters.  It will "shoot the square" just fine and return right to zero.  As far as brightness and clarity are concerened, I've been out early and late with it, and honestly, if it's legal shooting hours and in range for my skill llevel, it's mine.

I've shot family and friends rifles(all but 2 I recall are/were capable of 1"@100yds with a tailored load) scoped with sarovski(spelling?) zeiss, weaver, bushnell, redfield, burris, simmons, tasco and several other brand scopes on many occasions over the years out to 400 yards, a few out to 600, and honestly, with the exception of tasco and simmons, found none of the scopes I used lacking. Admitedly, all of them were big game rifles, tactical had nothing to do with it, it's all about meat in the freezer.

Now, I'll confess to relatively little experience with scopes vs. a lot of you, as I'm mostly a revolver guy, and given my recent divorce, money is VERY tight.

So would those of you with experience chime in please?

A lot of people claim that you should spend more on the glass than the gun it is going on.

I believe this is true in a lot of cases and I can tell the difference between a good scope and a piece of junk but I don't think it is true in every case.  On the low end of scopes I have had a lot of success with Simmons.  I have shot a couple nice little groups with two of their scopes.  They are not the best but serve my needs on smaller caliber rifles.

My buddy like Burris and Leupold a lot and has good results with them.  The Leupold clarity is nice.

I splurged on a Nightforce years ago and it has been a great scope.  I'm not sure if they are worth the price that they get for them today but a lot of benchrest shooters swear by them.
