Drag bags are constructed out of ballistic grade material with massive reinforcement (parachute webbing on the dragged side, french seamed triple stitching, etc). They work better than a backpack for several reasons - 1) they do not stick up in the air to give away your position while crawling 2) they do not get stuck to every vine and branch in the forest or jungle (if you have worn any gear while moving through brush, you will know what I mean), 3) if crawling, your ghillie suit is unbelievably hot - something on your back just adds to the heat 4) it is easier to access gear from your drag-bag than a back pack (less noise, less movement, etc) and 5) if you need to bolt, extract your weapon, ditch the bag, and exfil the area hastily (aka: Run like hell).
