    Outbreak,
Just from my personal experience, the cheapest are not always worth the price.  Usually I just buy the 12 pack from Surefire.  The reason is that their batteries seem to last longer on the shelf.  I bought some CR123's from Sportsmans and another pack at Bass Pro because they were a bit cheaper, and by the time I got through the pack the batteries only lasted about 2/3rds of what they usually do.  Take that for what you will.  Buy the Surefire's.  Price isn't horrible.  And they'll last.

I've actually never used anything but the Surefires. And life-span and shelf life are important, too, because I'm burning through them lately, but I don't know how long I'm going to be using them at the current rate.

    So how about this one...

+1 on the Surefires. My second choice would be the Streamlights.  I've never tried the Duracells or Energizers because they are about 3x the cost.

A co-worker asked me about CR123s.  He needed a cheaper place to get them for his camera and his head nearly exploded when I told him that any gun shop sold them for $4-$5 a pair.  Apparently the camera shop was dinging him about $20 a pair!

    Thanks, guys.
I'm on a trip for work, so my standard sources are out. I brought a 12-pack with me, but I've burned through 3 pairs of them in my G2 in less than half the trip. I'm used to paying less than $2 each.

You should be able to get them through supply?, though it may be like with the ba and they are only issued to those on ops or about to.

This may not be of use right now, but it might in the future.
A while back I picked up a twelve pack of Streamlight branded CR123A's through Amazon.com. At the time it was about $18.00, they're now selling for $22.40 (with free shipping). So far they've been good, I use them in a Surefire G2 (non LED) and a Streamlight NF-2 LED. Made in the U.S.A. to boot.

I will confim that the cheap CR123s are not worth it. I got a bunch of Battery Station CR123s and they were complete junk. Buy name brand or you're wasting money.

Also, one of the best things you can do for everyday usage is replace your G2's incandescent with a LED head (Malkoff Devices is a drop-in replacement for everything Sure-Fire, and I run one in my G2, no problems). Yes, they cost more, but the LEDs have longer runtime, are shock resistant, and don't eat batteries anywhere near as fast as an incandescent. You can debate light quality issues 'til the cows come home, but for close-in work (100yds and under) LEDs are unbeatable. For further-out work, I think the incandescents probably still have an edge (depends on exact usage and which units you're testing).

The LED conversion will pay for itself in CR123s if you use the light a lot, plus there is the added reliability and the reduced chances of pulling out a light with dead cells. Worth it.

Nope. I'm lucky to get duct tape when I need it, which is surprisingly often.

And I'm seriously considering getting a G2 LED, just for those reasons Coronach listed.

    Don't do it!

Read what I just wrote on your other thread. Get a Malkoff Devices drop-in for your G2.
