First IPSC Tomorrow
« on: October 25, 2008, 09:59:18 pm »
Tips for the newbie?
I'll be using a CZ-75 and a Saiga 5.56 (it's got a carbine match, too).
From what I understand, it's a pretty intensive shooting day, one of their longer matches. Fortunately, I do not have to face off against a Texas Star...
Thanks for listening

My advise to you is relax. Watch how the more experenced competitors approach the stage. Go slow!! You are going want to go as fast as possible but seriously, make every shot count. When you are the shooter in the hole (second shooter up) make sure you have all your gear loaded and ready. When I am the shooter on deck (next up), I pay no attention to the shooter that is up. Sit and relax. Close your eyes and concentrate on your breathing. It will help because when you are up and waiting for the buzzer, your heart is going to be trying it's best to come out of your chest. In the end I think you will find it is the most fun you will have with your chothes on. Have fun and report back!!!!

Also, a great tip would be not to break the gun that you are borrowing from your extremely nice friend.  That would be uncool. :)

Breathing is huge.  Helps with bullseye and IPSC alike.

You're a good shot with my CZ, so just take your time and make them count.  Speed comes later.

As for me, just watch for the guy juggling moonclips.

If it makes you feel better, he's fictionally amazing and you're literally horrible. :)  I kid I kid.

But practice makes perfect!  If you get a pistol sometime, you can really start shooting a lot and getting better.  Or you can talk to some of the guys out there and have one of them lend you  a pistol to shoot.

Owen didn't win his first match either.  :)

And Texas Stars are no big deal. Shoot the top one first, next one will move to the top position, pop it, third one moves to top position, pop it, bottom two are still on bottom. Shoot them both.  The Texas Star is only hard if you screw up and let it start flying around like crazy.

Hah, I was just making fun of Deer Hunter.
You've got a seriously good book on your hands, Correia. I enjoyed it thoroughly.
Now, if I can only get my own stupid books past chapter 2...

My first IPSC course I ever shot involved a Texas Star.  Damned near pissed myself when I saw it, but I got through it (within one mag too!), so all's good!

Nate, maybe you should seriously hint to him about getting you one... I want to use my CZ next time!

Eh, I had the most fun in the revolver course.
I was the only one to shoot it single action.

    Bad news.

    1.  It's addictive.
    2.  It's expensive.

That wasn't because I was shooting single action, that was because the speedloaders defeated my masterful mechanical prowess.  ;)
