Thinking about picking up two or three of these little guns.  J&G has them for $199 if you buy two or more.  A nice bonus is that I can take a half-day trip up to Prescott to pick them up.

My younger brother has one.  I like it a lot.   In fact, I can't think of ANY other gun I'd choose over it for $200, provided it was in good condition. 

It's no .45, but it's hard to argue with 12+1 rounds of 9x18.  The hottest stuff may be considered by some to be comparable to .38 special, depending on whether you subscribe to the light/fast (energy) theory, or the slow/heavy (momentum) theory.  I once "babysat" my brother's CZ82 for about a month, and just for a change, I experimented with it as my primary.  I never felt under-armed. 

It has a truly sweet double action trigger pull, which was surprising for a $200ish gun.  I don't know if this is normal, or if he just has a particularly excellent example.  Of course you can do cocked and locked if you want.

Sights are minimal, but it's a 200 dollar gun, so whatever.  It's a little snappy, but I've never been the recoil sensitive type.  I rather enjoy it.  Every time I've ever accompanied him to the range, it has been supremely reliable.  It ejects spent casings upwards of 30 feet. 

If I had $400 to blow, and was in your area, I'd probably be racing you to the gun store to snatch up the deal.

Condition varies pretty widely.  The one I have is practically brand new and I don't think it had been fired before I got it.   I've seen others that were pretty beat up. 

Is there a reason that thing looks so Makarov-ish?

Is it a straight up, improved PM clone?

The Makarov is itself a Walther PP clone. The CZ-82 has some distinct similarities to both, and some important differences. They all are straight blowback mechanisms with a coaxial (wrapped around the barrel) recoil spring, and slides that remove to the rear after pulling down the trigger guard (which retract the slide stop).

The CZ-82 is different in that it uses a double stack magazine (there were some doublestack Makarovs but they're not so common), a push button magazine release instead of a heel latch (some PP/PPKs use a button and some a heel latch), a frame mounted safety without decocker, and an external slide stop. The CZ is also unusual for a combloc gun in that it uses polygonal rifling.

The only one I have any real experience with is the Makarov, so if anyone sees a mistake or omission please let me know.

Pros - double stack 12 round magazine
         good double action trigger, great single action
         polygonal rifling supposedly improves velocity, easiser to clean
        nice sized grips, not too small, not too large
        Gotten 2ea from SOG, police holsters, break top, extra mag and case
        it's just neat!

Cons - loading the double stack ((#^^$))&^$%%*%#&)(*()$*&$*&$mag by hand.

You won't find 9x18 at WalMart, but it should be available at most reasonably stocked gun shops and any gunshow should have somebody with it.

Silver Bear 9x18 looks like candy.  It's all I can do to keep from eating the whole mag like a Pez dispencer.

For the price,  if you really like Maks,  It would be really easy to justify some serious gunsmithing along the lines of a good carry melt.
