Wow...first post on this forum in a year and a half? Something is WRONG here guys :neener
Anyway, after getting Kaso's .38 I kinda spent my gun money..... :cool
Me, my dad and a good friend all sent in for M1 Garands from the CMP......it's been 32 days since I sent off the check, they showed up this afternoon :panic :clap :thumbup1 :D :) :o :confused :shocked
Pictures will be up next weekend, we'll have them all out with a good camera to take a picture.
ALL were in good shape, USGI stocks (I'm glad, rather than a new stock like some are shipping). Me and dad got Springfield Armory's, my friend got a H&R (Exactly what he wanted so! Awesome!), Muzzle and Throats were 1-2, 0-1 and 2-2 respectively, which is pretty good.
Can't believe I waited so long to get one, wasn't really hard, SHOCKED at how quickly they showed up and after firing off a clip out of each, dang fun guns :thumbup1
Got a 500 round case of M1-Garand specific .30-06 coming from PPU that we're splitting 3-ways. FOr now I'm using out of two 192 round cans of Greek HXP on clips that I picked up from a gunshow "just in case".
Anyone on the fence about ordering a Garand? DO IT. Prices gone up quickly the last two years and I question how much longer they'll be around. If you want to shell out more money, International Harvester Garands will be available day after tomorrow from the CMP as well.

I have 5. 3 Springfields, an H&R, and a Winchester. It is tempting to add an IHC so I can complete the set, but I can't really afford that much right now.

:thumbup1 Good clean fun . :cool

I'm planning on getting a bayonet/sheath, cartridge belt, suspenders, 1911 holster, 1911 mag pouch, and canteen pouch for it as well.
For the cartridge belt I'm getting original as it sounds like some repros fall apart. ALso saving to get a GOOD reproduction bayonet, don't want to chintz out after paying that much for the rifle.
All-American Garand kinda deserves special treatment :cool

Make sure you get an adjustable gas plug if you shoot commercial ammo in it.
-
What about this option - Not vented, not adjustable.

That's why there's been so little activity in the C&R forum: surplus rifle collecting is becoming like the collecting of most other guns. Expensive. No more cheap Garands or Enfields. Mausers are drying up. The supply of SKSes dried up. Eventually, even the Mosins will run out. The guns are still out there, but they're harder to find and cost more.

That should work, didn't realize something like that was available. I might have to buy a few of those.
International Harvester Garands have had a premium for some time now. There were less of them made to begin with, and a lot of collectors want to get the whole set. Also of the ones that were made, a lot of them were sent to Iran prior to the fall of the Shah, so we aren't ever getting those back again. I'd like to get one, but $810 is a little steep at the moment. I'm trying to get my rental property paid off within the next three years, so that's taking up a lot of my spare funds.

I'm planning on getting some PPU M1-garand ammo, then after it's gone I'll be reloading to garand-specs.
-
I have some of that too, it's good stuff. Also got a huge pile of regular CMP stuff and a bunch of that AP ammo they sold a few years ago.
-
Are you going to post a range report on those? !
There is a lot of good info on Garands around, I found the tips on accurizing very useful. Was able to take a somewhat worn field grade that was shooting a horizontal string 12" wide and 4" tall to a nice round 4" group. Just with proper stock fitting.

Ah...I ain't got around to taking a picure and I'm tired tonight, I'll do a wee writeup shortly :cool

Here is an in depth article on ammunition port pressure and recoil impulse levels suited to the Garand.
