Got a Drilling
« on: March 17, 2018, 07:25:23 pm »
Here's photos of my new drilling.  16 gauge over 9.3X72R. Better photos later.

Very nice.  One of those has appealed to me for a while, but they are usually priced out of reach.

Interesting calibre choice. I wouldn't consider either of those to be "common"  :hmm .

Common for the modern American market, no.  But extremely common as far as Drilling chamberings go.

As you may see in the photos (I didn't before then) it seems to have some cracks in the receiver. The dealer, being a gentleman, let me trade for another, differently cool drilling with 8X58R under 16 gauge.

On the one hand, that sucks. On the other hand, kudos to the dealer for being willing to make things right, and I suspect it'll be a touch easier to find 8mm Danish Krag ammo vs. 9.3x72R.

I suspect that statement about the ammo may end with me prying my foot out of my mouth...

It doesn't appear to be 8mm Krag.  It's something oddball and German.

I looked it up - apparently 8mm x 58mmR is different than the 8mm Danish Krag, but I'm not familiar with either.

    It's not 8X58R Sauer, either.

Since we found cracks on the first drilling, I swapped out for this one.

16 gauge over 7.7X58R, which is neither the Danish nor Sauer variant.  ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED! Finding a caliber _I've_ never heard of.

Huh, I googled 8x58r and it came back as being 8mm Danish Krag. Guess my Google-fu is weak.

I think they mean 8X58R Sauer, which is not what I have, and near as I can tell, none of the three would chamber in each other anyway.
