    I've got an 1896 full length rifle and love it! Absolute tack-driver and the penetration is impressive.

    Not worth shooting, just send it to me for disposal... ;) .  Great rifles, accurate, low recoil, good ballistics, and you are so lucky.

    There was a 38 Type 1 on the rack at my LGS last time I was there for under four bills. As usual, I'm kicking myself for not picking it up. :banghead

    I have a little experience with them.

    I'd like to have more experience with them but I keep getting outbid every time I see one come up for sale!

    Right now, I only one Swede in my collection. Mine's a Husqvarna made M38, and I felt lucky to pay twice what you paid. I'd like to add at least a M96, but I can't find any locally for less than $350. May be time to hit Gunbroker?

    IMHO, the Swede Mauser is one of the best milsurps out there.

    I am SOOOO excited:

      It's maybe worse than it looks: but I won an auctionarms/gunauction M96 Swedish Mauser for $255.  It's got some wear but I haven't seen a non-sporterized Swede locally for under $400. Milsurps aren't popular here, but the Swede Mausers get snapped up around here.  (I honestly think it's because Montana has a super-dense population with swede backgrounds).   it DOES have a threaded muzzle, but that only bothers the collector, not me  :cool

    Swedes get snapped up everywhere. They're seriously great rifles. Great craftsmanship, great ergonomics, great cartridge, great lines, and (often) great condition.

    I still need one.

     Wooohoo!!!

    My M96 showed up yesterday, nice shape, smooth action, great bore.  Shoots good (the misses on a 14" 250 yard plate were totally my fault).

    Here's a link to the gun I got (I blame the fact that they take WAAAY better pictures than me).

    One thing the pictures don't show (easily): is stamped on the receiver alongside the "1917" markings, is a "SA" inside a box, meaning it was used by Finland in the 1939 Winter War/and/or Continuation War.

     Not a huge price bump but immensely more interesting to me personally  :D
