Title: Safety question: 357 Sig in a 9mm suppressor?
Post by: Kaso on August 03, 2016, 01:46:31 pm
I know it won't be as quiet, and the whole internet is telling me that...  My question is: Can I do it safely?  Can a 9mm can be mounted on a 357 Sig handgun, or is it a time grenade?  I have an AAC Tirant9, so it is a good can... but lightweight.  I'm not sure if it would hold up or not.

Any thoughts?

You can do so, but it is not recommended. Buy the correct can for the correct caliber. If the manufacturer doesn't list or recommend using the caliber, don't.

Subject to common sense, obviously. You can fire .22 LR or similar out of nearly any can and be fine. Going up in caliber/psi is not recommended.

All things being equal, the 357 Sig will have more residual pressure at the muzzle, but things are never equal.  I would contact AAC to see if they warranty.

Are you aware of any 357 Sig suppressors?

A quick browse at the silencer shop turns up six cans rated for 357 magnum.  They should handle 357 sig fine.

Does the manufacturer specify a minimum barrel length to use with their suppressor?

A 3" 9mm is probably going to put more strain on the can than a 6" .357 Sig.

They do not specify, but I found my answer.  Rather than google an answer for just a generic '9mm suppressor,' I searched for my specific can.  The answer is no, per factory rep.  :(

I don't even have a 357 Sig handgun, but the concept sounded fun. :shrug
