Kawasaki.....
« on: May 16, 2013, 09:14:11 am »
I've never really given Kawasaki a hard look before.  Turns out, we have a dealership here locally, and I checked them out yesterday afternoon.  Does anyone here have much experience with Kawasaki, as a brand?  Any horror stories?  Any uplifting wondrous accounts to relate?  Lol, I know there will be haters on everything, and the same is true with fanboys.  But you guys are pretty honest.  So......speak up!!!

Also, I was looking at zx10's, for the most part.  Definitely digging a litre bike.

Not a huge Kawey fan my self, but I've not heard anything bad about them.  Some models have nice lines, even going so far as to imitate Harley lines.

Personally though, if I were going to buy something other that a Harley, I'd go for a Beemer, or a Triumph.

I'm keeping my Harley, at least for now.  I'm not going to get a Kawi cruiser, i'm looking at ZX10's.

Used to have a KLR650.  It was a good bike, but I sold it and bought a Suzuki V-Strom because I wanted something a little better for street and highway riding.

I always though of myself as a Honda guy but somehow I've had a Kawi for the past 11 years or so. My Kawasaki is old enough to wear a "Historic Motorcycle" plate and still going strong.

For that matter, so am I.  :D

It only requires the bike to be 25, but in crotch rocket years that's more like 100. Not many of them survive past 10 without being killed by something.

Thanks for the vote of confidence!  Lol, I've been riding for a decade or so.  I know that's probably not the experience you have, but I know what I'm doing, I've paid my dues with a crash or two, and have outgrown my "youthful idiocy" phase.  I just want a different pony for the stable now.

I have a 2005 ZRX-1200R that I'm looking to sell. I can even set the carbs back to where they worked in West Texas so you'll have no problem riding it where you are. I love the bike, just don't feel like dealing with the carbs anymore. $3k negotiable and pick it up and it's yours. PM me if you're interested.

ETA: Looking at a new Ninja 300 as a replacement. I only have my bike as a more fuel efficient commuter than my truck at 18mpg. Either way, the Rex gets 35mpg easy, and the new Ninja gets 60+. Kawi makes good bikes.

The bikes turn, stop, and accelerate better than other bikes.
It is the rudder and not the bike that causes death.
Cruiser bikes are responsible for more injuries and deaths.

I was referring to the claim that a sport bike is more dangerous.
If you break it down to which bike is mechanically safer, then yes... the cruiser is a less safe motorcycle.
I also stand by the fact that it is ultimately the rider that carries the blame in most accidents that are not something like a car coming over on the bike or turning in front of it.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

My father was a Kawi/Suzuki guy.
    Z1 900, KZ1000, GS1100.
The CB750 came out when he was 18 and the UJM was THE bike that he loved.
I have owned Honda, Suzi, and Kawi... love them all.
I DO find myself leaning towards Kawasaki... and Outbreak can stop taking about his ZRX being up for grabs ANY time he feels like it.
    ;)

It also doesn't help that cruiser riders tend to be less likely to wear real protective gear.

There are a lot of attention getting idiots on sport bikes zipping around in shorts and flip flops, but most anyone over 25 on one has got a quality helmet (not a ridiculous little brain bucket), jacket with CE approved armor, boots, gloves, etc.
