My truck needs new shocks...any recommendations? (Both parts and vendors) Anyone/anything to stay away from?
Truck is a 2001 Dodge Dakota crewcab 4WD. Used as a daily beater with weekend Home Despot trips and occassional towing.

Take a look into the bilstein 5100s. Really solid shocks, other stuff is compared to these guys.
I've got four of them waiting to be stuck on my 1998 tacoma.

For my everyday run-around rig, I usually run Monroe sensa-trac shocks.

This may be considered as the true palladium of liberty. . . . The right of self defence is the first law of nature: in most governments it has been the study of rulers to confine this right within the narrowest limits possible. Wherever standing armies are kept up, and the right of the people to keep and bear arms is, under any colour or pretext whatsoever, prohibited, liberty, if not already annihilated, is on the brink of destruction- St. George Tucker, Blackstone's Commentaries

Monroe shocks for that application. You do not need stiff handling performance shocks or offroad shocks. Just get plain Monroe OEM equivalent. Widely available and cheap.
