I NEVER thought I would ever own a yellow vehicle, but the color is starting to grow on me.

I flew two states away and drove it over 750 miles back home. But I think it is worth it.

It's a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 with the 5.9 Cummins diesel and a Mercedes G56 6 Speed manual tranny.

The pic was taken near West Yellowstone, on April 3rd. It was incredibly beautiful up in those hills.

I'm just doing my part to piss off Prius drivers.

Nice pickup. Not a yellow fan but a big Dodge believer. Good to see you got a manual, took me a lot of looking to find one without a slushbox in it.

How many miles?

130,000 Miles so it's broken in.

I wasn't a big fan of yellow either but I don't think I'll ever paint it. The color is growing on me. Plus it's REALLY easy to see where I parked.

I was at the auto parts store getting new wiper blades for it and my wife's rig when I held the door open for a guy carrying a jug of oil. He said, "Thanks. Nice truck."

I've never had anyone say that about a vehicle of mine before.

A lot of people I talked to asked, "Why do you want a Manual? They're too much work! Blah blah blah."

I would reply, "I'm a sadist, that's why."

Speaking from a personal perspective, I like having the control and feeling more involved with the process of getting from point A to point B...

I like the looks of those, not a diesel guy though;) Well they are expensive to buy and fix if they break and that's enough to make me leery;)

But I love those Dodge's of those years, very comfortable nice driving trucks, the gas motor versions however I have a genuine fear of their transmission reliability especially used. From what I've seen if everything is done properly maintenance wise they are decent to great. But if that's not done properly they are pretty weak overall. My father in law's has done two tranny's in 140,000 miles and it's in the shop for a third now. He pulls fairly heavy loads but he's one of many guys in this area who had nothing but problems with the transmissions in the gas versions.

Which sucks, because I really like the trucks allot but I'm unwilling to go diesel;)

Either way doesn't effect yours looks like a dang nice truck;)

I've never been around the new Dodge manuals in the gassers, I had assumed they were the same type/brand as the diesel manuals. Heck, in the '03 and up I don't think I've seen a manual gas pickup, only the diesels seem to have them.

Most of our dodges are 96-02's with manual transmissions, mix of gas and diesel, the newer '05 we have is just a half ton with an automatic, but it's been pretty danged good in it's 130K miles of use.

My family is switching back over to gassers, power has gone up, milage has gone up, while diesel milage, power and reliability has gone down while price has skyrocketed.

I like my diesel because it's the older 24 valve Cummins (wish it was a 12 valve but I digress), the main thing I like is I can put 650 miles on it without refueling. Main reason I purchased it.

The ones I'm talking about were autos rather than manual I haven't seen any manual tranny ones around here or known anyone who has one etc.

Yeah, dodge automatics are notorious. expect about 80K miles from the older 02 and older 4 speeds regardless of maintenance. On the newer ones.....a long time if maintained, if not, about 100K.

Aside from mom's "Town pickup" and dad's newer '12 work ford, everything we own is manual. Automatics don't fit into our work routine very well.

That's one reason why I went with a 6 speed manual. I wonder if I could get a manual for my wife's Durango.

I had a yellow CJ-5, 1973 year model. I loved that thing. I was going to paint it primer black but the color grew on me so I left it as it was. I regret selling it but I had a new baby and needed moving money.

I bought my 05' (3/4 ton Dodge diesel, 6 speed, Quad cab 4x4) new in late 04'. It just went over 250,000 miles and it's only needed a wheel bearing, two water pumps and a u-joint. Great ride.

Aside from my name being on my wife's cars, I've never owned an automatic. Driving them feels all weird, like I don't have control of the drive train. I can't say I'll never own a slush box, but I will ALWAYS own at least one manual.

Bones has a name for that yellow, but it would get blocked by the filters, and I get jealous when she says it to anyone but me. She wants and old Bronco, or FJ in that color.

That's the truth. Most of the new firetrucks are all automatics because people cannot drive stick....

My own department is that way even

Put 2 clutches in a Ford V10 with a 6 speed and it only has 10,000 miles on it. IN THEIR DEFENCE.....a 6 speed shouldn't have been put in a V10. It has 4:10 gears and still needs to be at 3 grand in first to not kill it when taking off.

But no, there was 2 trucks that only me and one other guy could drive. All the newbies can't drive the 5 speeds, much less a 13 speed in a truck.

My Jeep will fire up without a key, but it's a stick, and sometimes I leave the transfer case in neutral.

A three on the tree is the even better than a stick on the floor. VERY few people under 40 have even heard of them, let alone driven one.

Love the Cummins and miss my 6 speed. Just wish that it was available in something other than a Dodge. Did Dodge turn down the power in 05 for the manual? I was speaking with a friend Friday who has a 14 or 15 and he said that the manual in his year is down graded 75 hp from the auto to help save the clutch.

Sarah's truck when she worked at the hospital before we went traveling was an old 78 Chevy pickup half ton, 2wd with three on the tree;) They would valet park employee vehicles part of the time, she would show up with the truck. And when she would get ready to leave it would be right where she left it since no one knew how to drive it;) After a few times they told her just to park it in the garage;)

Three on the tree isn't bad, it's simple but allot of people have never driven one. A better trick is once the linkage gets iffy and it starts dropping between the 1-2 shift and then locks you in second unless you know how to pull the right part of the linkage to unlock it;) They are allot of interesting fun once they start wearing out at the collar, hard to adjust etc. But they aren't bad;)

The first family car I drove was a three on the tree Ford Falcon (I think) in the mid 70s. Mid-60s model. Failed my first driver's exam when it died on a 4-way uphill stop sign. Put the e-brake on and proceeded to restart it, but I didn't notice it starting to roll in spite of the brake. The examiner had to tell me, which is an instant fail. Hit the foot brake, did the old "heel on the brake, toe on the gas" trick, and headed back to the DMV. Took it again six months later at college in a late 60s hot-rodded Baracuda with a six-pack carb and a radical cam. And an automatic transmission. Needed to give it enough gas when you put it in gear that it didn't kill the engine, but not so much that it chirped the tires. Passed that time.

But I got better with the three speeds. Much better. Thinking back, I can't recall a time I haven't had at least one vehicle with a manual transmission in the last 30-plus years.

Yeah, my 78 F150 you kinda had to pop it when going from 1st to 2nd. My sisters would call me to come rescue them when they got it stuck in second.

We mostly had sticks while I was growing up, and until I got a Duramax with an Allison transmission, try finding a Duramax with a standard, I had owned all manuals.

We have a much older Dodge 2500 with the Cummins diesel, and manuel tranny, low geared diff for towing. Over 400,000 miles on it. Cylinder head has been reworked and injectors rebuilt, but that is all. May go another 400,000.
