Hello from SW Montana. I joined this group a few days ago and have lived up to my title of "Lurker". Thanks for having me. I've already enjoyed quite a few threads, but I am disappointed to find I learned of this group after the banter slowed.

Sorry folks, didn’t mean to sneak in. I found a reference to this place on another forum and came over to take a look. I like what I see.

And I totally love the fact that you guys have a creative writing section.

I am updating a story that I wrote on another forum and posting it here. While the people at the original site liked it and were generous with their comments, I was hoping for more writer-centric feedback. Hopefully I can get that here. ( It’s called When The Host Dies )

I love the huge amount of information that I have been finding on this site. The people seem great, and I enjoy coming here, kicking back and spending some time with like minded people.

Hi, all; joined today. Referred by a member of AZGO, with particular reference to creative writing). Been a citizen of AZ since Memorial Day 2016. Former NY-er (Yechhh) and before that NJ (Yechhh), my primary firearms interest is rifles, AR's especially, I have built a few for special purposes (LR and Precision), have been a handloader since the Mid-90's, and belong to (of course) AZGO, and have been a member of SH since its beginning, going on 20 years, where I post under my actual name, Greg Langelius, where my title is Resident Elder Fart. Prior to 2000, I was primarily a handgun competitor, 3-Gun Bullseye, but handgun shooting has never been a natural act for me, and I now concentrate on rifles. Once an NRA Certified instructor, rifle and pistol, I've been out of that for well over a decade. At 74, I'm working on my mellow. Married 50 years this past July, two of our adult Grand kiddos reside with us and we are all shooters top some degree or other.

I read a lot of SyFy and am mildly interested in trying writing it, someday.

Hope I can contribute.

You seem like a fine addition to the forums. Glad to have you here.

I'd be happy to take a peek at anything you write. The youth of today could use some influence from their accomplished elders, IMHO. Have at it!

This forum seems awesome and I've been looking for a place to join that's firearms oriented. I've always loved these now "classic" internet forums and am excited to be a part. Also, this thread contains references to The Princess Bride so I already know I'm in the right crowd. Thanks for having me!

Thankfully I've ended up in Idaho, and have since gotten my concealed carry permit. I ended up selling that Ruger -- that gun was just too small for me. I've picked up a Sig P365 since and man is it wonderful. I also own a Ruger Redhawk .44 Mag that my family used when we lived in AK for bears, a Ruger Security 9 (I'm too skinny to carry it, but it's a great shooter), a Ruger American Rimfire .22lr, a Savage .17HMR, and a Ruger AR-556 with a nice 3x Vortex optic on it.

Hoping to expand my gun collection soon and chat with some likeminded fellows. I'm tired of being on forums with an anti-gun echo chamber.

Anyway, happy new year fellas, I'm raising my scotch your way!

Top Dog here,found this forum quite by accident while reading up on the Fitz Special revolvers.

'Nam Vet (64,65,66) and guarded the President 66-68,then was an LEO from '68-2008. That retirement did not last long as then I started to teach college ten days later for 3 yrs until my wife took ill and had to care for her.

Main interest is in snubbies and high end air rifles.

Needless to say,this is a very unique forum.

Snubbies are, or have been, a frequent topic of conversation around here and many of us are fond of them. The standard reply to people who have only lately discovered an interest in revolvers is a mixed bag metaphor from Star Wars: 1) "An elegant weapon from a more civilized era", or 2) Welcome to the dark side . . .

I don't know how any shooter can't have at least a passing interest in air guns. Most of us grew up in close proximity to at least one or more examples like the famous Daisy BB guns or the old Sheridan pump rifles. The old ones are still as much fun as they used to be and the modern versions have almost completely re-written the rulebook about air guns in general.

Lots of pretty good archived material around here from years past and even though our numbers have dwindled a bit we can still have a lively discussion.

I guess I have been on the "dark side" for many decades.

Funny thing about snubbies is at my department,guys would do the qualifcations with their duty pieces and then pack the snubby and go on their way.

Virtually all back up guns were snubbies.

I have an Air Force Condor for ten years now as well as a Benjamin Discovery (both 22s) top it off with three Sheridans from three different decades pretty well round it off.

About 7 years ago I had a couple of articles published in Airgun Hobbist magazine. One about the advantages of airguns and the other about the Sheridan air rifles.

As an LEO for forty years,I do have tales to tell like;

How would you go about investigating a motor vehicle accident where a car was driven into a kitchen?

Did I mention that the kitchen was on the 2nd floor?

Yup,she did it....and in reverse too!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You gotta love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I lived in a duplex neighborhood for a stretch, and a teenager learning to drive managed to drive into the kitchen of the duplex across the street from us. Bonus: through the back door.

They'd hit the gas a little too aggressively coming around the corner, and panicked, locking their foot all the way down on the gas, and continuing the corner up the hill, through the backyard, and into the backdoor. Luckily, my friend that lived in that duplex was in his room instead of cooking.

Near perfect Fibonacci spiral, though, through the yard.

See? I knew it! Great stories already delivered.

I'll have to tell you about the time two unoccupied vehicles were involved in an accident where the actual collision occurred on private property and the police had no clue how to report it and the insurance claims adjusters were equally perplexed except for knowing that their respective companies were not responsible for a claim.

Condors are nice guns and the old Sheridans just seem to soldier on for decades with minimal maintenance. I live a short drive from Airguns of Arizona and drop by there from time to time to drool on the glass and wonder how on earth I might be able to afford a nice pcp rifle with all the accoutrement. In the meantime I pick up a few pellets for the Dianawerk 34 and the old Crosman side lever springer pistol. Good fun - and more relevant in times when other ammunition is scarce and/or prohibitively expensive.

Gosh! The stories are out there!!!!

Thing is that you can't make this stuff up. Truth is far stranger than fiction.

The airguns today are a far cry from those of years gone by. It is probably a safe bet that everyone here probably started out with a Daisy BB gun of some sort,usually a Red Ryder.

I am dating myself here when I say I remember when in high school some kids would bring their shotguns to school in their case,put them in their lockers and after school go out hunting. Crime was basically non existant. Teachers,cops and parents ladled out spankings for any infractions.

Yep,things were different back then.

Yup. I remember those days also. I suppose by today's standards ( or lack thereof . . . ) we would have been considered ignorant and barbaric but my recollection of that time is that we were generally healthier and happier than we seem to be today.

Anyway, this is a newbie intro thread so I should knock it off and start posting somewhere else lest I be charged with felony thread drift . . .
