I found the forum looking for info about prairie dogs, poked around a bit, and came to the conclusion that this place was full of gun-loving conservative wackos, so naturally felt at home.

Hello all. Adam Lee here, just joined the team this morning. Glad to be in another "freedom forum" that keeps the gun stuff alive! I'm a native Virginian, proud to be in a state that continues to allow old fashioned gun shows and CCW options....

Been working too hard lately, guess my 6th grade teaching job keeps me pretty "locked-down" for 10 months of the year. Come summertime, though, my gun hobbies (amongst others) kick in! I enjoy always having some gun restoration and shooting projects on hand at all times.

Right now, into JMB designed rifles and shotguns. Pre-WW2 Savage 720, pre-WW1 Stevens 520's, and pre-WW1 Remington Model 8's are what I'm working on and restoring right now. Also always messing around with some old Mosin Nagant's, prefer to return M91's and Dragoons back to life as well as any Finn Nagants. 98 Mausers of any flavor have also been a longtime favorite to shoot and restore.

OK, that's enough for now - looking forward to becoming a regular, hope it works out!

After lurking for a few weeks, I figure I ought to finally say hello.

I'm a native East Tennessean currently in Knoxville. I found this site through Mr. Hill's references in his Uprising series and thought it might be a good place to hang out an learn a little something.

I'm currently suffering from ammo withdrawal syndrome as I was not prescient enough to stock up prior to the shortage, but things are beginning to look up.

I'm currently debating my next purchase and have narrowed it down to either a G34/35 or a G20 with an accessory .40 barrel so I can pick-up decent-priced practice ammo.

What part of East Tennessee? My wife has family in Cosby (where her dad was born) and Newport. We usually spend some time in Cosby in the summer. Going up there in a couple weeks.

My "carry" is a Gen 2 G22, which I absolutely love for its simplicity, ergonomics and utter reliability.

G34 is a NICE pistol. The G20 is more umph than I would want to shoot on a regular basis, so I see a reason for the .40 barrel, besides cheaper ammo.

It is truly amazing what John Browning did considering the technology of that time. I think I have an example of every standard grade FN Auto 5 they put out in 12 gauge. My favorite is the "Light 12" with the 25" Skeet barrel. I still shoot birds with that one from time to time. No screw in tubes in those days. You bought extra barrels, and I've got a lot of them, too. Also have a nice 60's vintage 9mm High Power with bluing so deep and highly polished that I can't find words for it. And a nice 12 gauge 3 inch magnum Winchester Model 12 Heavy Duck Gun with the solid rib, circa '57. Full choke, of course. That design allowed you to hold the trigger down and it would fire every time you pushed the slide back forward and breached the next shell. The product liability nanny lawyers would never allow that today. Got a few other JMB's in the collection.

The most valuable one (to me) is from the era that interests you: Remington Model 11 original Browning "Humpback" semi-auto shotgun. Serial number dates it to 1911, before JMB started having them made by FN. Like your Savage 720. It lacks the magazine cut-off lever of the later FN's. It belonged to my grandfather, who bought it new, used it on his Iowa farm for everything and taught his two sons, including my father, to hunt with it. Cosmetically, it's in sad shape, virtually no bluing left, rust spots all over (but a shiny nice bore), cracked and repaired stock. Sadly, it eventually became a barn gun when it passed to my dad's older brother(who preferred to hunt with a side-by-side double) before passing to my dad and then to me. But, I'd never dream of restoring it because of the family sentimental value. The wear, scratches and cracks each tell their own story. I've never fired it and probably never will. Just lovingly and thoroughly cleaned and oiled and given a position of honor in my safe. It's sometimes taken out when my 87 year old dad visits so he can tell me some of those stories.
