I just found out about this one today.

I really hope this gets nipped in the bud since the penalties are bonkers.

    I wonder if any of the people who thought this was a good idea are aware of the history of prohibition?

    Not a chance. Add in the War on Drugs. While they may be intellectually aware of those 2 failures, they are unable to connect the dots.

    So's the price of the license.   It would effectively make it illegal for someone poor to own a firearm.

    The bill was brought by Sheila Jackson Lee, who isn't likely to know any history.

    It was filed with no cosponsors, so there's hope it won't go far.  But these days . . .

    The possibility of it, or similar crap, someday being passed puts me in mind of the old military adage, "Never issue an order that you know will not be obeyed.  To do so only undermines your authority".

    And who are the people who are most likely to encounter violence and therefore would benefit the most from guns for self defense?

    That's right, the poor who can't afford to move to a nicer neighborhood!
